Zune HD

After receiving one of these media players (from US $219) at a recent Microsoft event in New York City, I fell in love with this premium product's amazing feature set -- including a 3.3-inch 16:9 OLED screen, subscription free HD radio, 720p HD movie support and the ability to download media (music, games, videos) over Wi-Fi. Also not in Canada is the Zune Marketplace, Microsoft's impressive answer to the iTunes store (with an "all you can eat" music subscription along with an "a la carte" per-song purchase).

TiVo, the renowned personal video recorder (or as Americans called it, a "digital" video recorder), is in fact available in Canada -- allowing you to pause and "rewind" live TV and have it record shows it thinks you'll like -- but the only model available here doesn't record in high-definition. Huh? What's the point? You're better off passing on this US $249.99 (with monthly subscription) in favour of your TV provider's solution.

HP's Presto Printing Mailbox

Oh how I wish I had this US $50 gadget for my 92 year-old grandmother. The Presto looks like a computer printer but doesn't require a computer. Simply plug it into the phone line and you can send PC-less relatives and friends photos and emails that print out on good 'ol fashioned paper. It's a great way of keeping grandma in the loop, but alas, this product isn't available here.
