The top 10 smartphone trends to watch in 2012

Good news for those ready to upgrade their smartphone: expect to get a lot of bang for your buck this year. That’s because hardware makers, wireless carriers and app developers have big plans for 2012…

Bigger Screens

Bigger is better
Expect your next smartphone to boast a bigger screen than your old BlackBerry or iPhone. Android devices especially are creeping up in size, such as Samsung's Galaxy Nexus (4.65 inches) or the Galaxy Note (5.3-inches), which means they're better for watching videos, playing games, reading e-books and browsing the web. The next crop of BlackBerrys and the iPhone 5 are also rumoured to have bigger displays.

Bigger screen is good but they need to come upbwith battries that can at least last 1full day with usage.
I tried the new galaxy s2 lte from rogers. Battery declined at 5% per hour and thats just when its sitting in my pocket on 2g only, no wifi, bluetooth, or anything else, even the screen brightness was dead low and all notifications turned off. Could be just the phone but samsung didnt live up to expectations.

  • Tech Guy says:

All smart phones drain batteries quick, you could go a day and a half with just phone use and shutting off your wi-fi so it does not search.
BTW: Android had the ability to control your smartphone with your voice long be for Apple.

  • Tony E says:

I just get the HTC Amaze 4G. It is a great phone, I love it but, the batterieas the same problem. To solve it I order 2 new batteries.
I guess, we get big stuff and… the batteries go dead very fast

  • dean says:

I was just wondering when the iphone5 will be for sale?

  • Tim Cromwell says:

They have had phones with chips in them in Europe for at least 12 years. I had a friend go to Sweden about 12 years ago, he was walking down the street with his friend and his friend purchased two Cokes from a machine and paid with his cell phone. The way of the future, money is obsolute.

  • Geeee says:

Can anybody tell me which smartphone is the best to buy right now that won’t be ot of style in 2 months

  • BBJack says:

For a substitute brain, which is what these things are becoming, they are still pretty chintzy. What used to be a productivity tool has now become a toy. If it does not fit into a shirt pocket, it is too big. Tablets will fade away as soon as touch sensitive computers are minaturized. It is a a big rip off by the phone and cable companies anyway. Why do we have to pay one internet access fee for a smartphone and another for our computer? It would be easy peasy for these companies to allow a person to access the net and deal with phone calls from any device. I can do it from any computer why not from any device?

  • Joe says:

@Geeee I prefer the Nexus. But most of the smartphones have the problem, that the battery is quiet weak for such big displays and HD-streams. I’m just wondering why the developers amend the display and all the other hardware-stuff but not the battery. I always have my old Nokia on my mind. 6 days without a charger, hope there is something similiar for smartphones in the future
