Beer + video games = heaven?
What’s the only thing better than video games? Nothing. OK, perhaps beer is up there, too. If you agree with this assessment, perhaps you’ll consider picking up a “Beer Arcade” unit. Just bring your wallet.
If you love retro video games and carbonated alcoholic beverages, the Octane 120 Pro Beer Arcade from Dream Arcades might just be for you.
Why? It combines the two into one product.
The Beer Arcade is a high-end gaming PC with full driving controls, seat and HD projector that sites at the front of the unit to beam video onto a nearby wall.
But, as the name of the product suggests, this gaming rig is also outfitted to hold two five-gallon (19-litre) kegs or a half-barrel, complete with an integrated beer tap located directly above the cup-holder — so you can pour while you play.
Yes, go ahead, you can pinch yourself.
But before you do, be aware it’ll set you back US$5,995, plus tax and shipping.
The custom-made, pre-built unit has a fully-adjustable leather steering wheel; metal gas, brake and clutch pedals (with variable resistance); dual-motor force feedback (for realistic rumbling effects); and a 2-player control panel with built-in trackball. Dream Arcades says this system is also compatible with the Sony PlayStation 3 via USB connectivity.
Along with a dozen driving games, the Beer Arcade also comes preloaded with more than 150 arcade classics — including Pac-Man, Galaga, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Centipede, Root Beer Tapper, Xevious and Dragon’s Lair – plus more than 60 Atari 2600 titles. Click here for a full list of games included.
Interestingly, the Beer Arcade isn’t the first company to fuse gaming with beer. A stand-up arcade unit called The Gamerator ($3,499) also offers retro arcade games and a built-in keg fridge and tap.
Sync readers, if you had the cash, would you buy something like this? On a related note, what’s your favourite all-time arcade game from the ’80s? Mine is Galaga, without a doubt.

I’m sure there’s a niche market out there for novelty items such as this. I’m just wondering how you complete a market research analysis on such a product. Whoever their researcher is might either be gaining stardom or moving to a new country. LOL
if it made pizza and came with a supermodel, this would be the single greatest creation in history…
