CES 2012: The coolest gadgets

By Comments (6)

The Consumer Electronics Show is a massive collection of the very latest in technology. So whittling the millions of products down to 11 of the coolest can be a challenge. Here’s what we found while walking the aisles.

HoloAd

HoloAd, $5,000 US
Everyone remembers the scene in Star Wars where a tiny hologram of Princess Leia pleads for help. Now you can use such a hologram to showcase your product with HoloAd; the newest version (officially, the HoloAD DS3 Duke) of this display that now features full 1080P resolution. The display lets you see 180 degrees around a picture. Of course, the benefit is not only the wide viewing angle but also the stop-and-stare effect that seeing a real hologram with good quality has on people. Though the $5,000 price tag means it's definitely for business, and not an impulse buy, if you are looking for a way to position your product as cutting edge the display should be on your list.

Who needs any of these devices, I already get apps on tv via an HDMI connect of my Blackberry Playbook to my 46inch Sony tv. Anything I can view on Playbook I can view on the tv. Incidentally, I can also HDMI connect my laptop to the same tv and watch streamed content or DVD. Don’t need another box nd can save the $180.00

I agree with nevynwolf. Personally, some of the items are great, but the others are just flat-out gimmicky/useless.

All in all though, CES is continuing to impress the heck out of me. It’ll be cool to have something like Pipboy technology (referring to the watch device) some day!

    I know, I’m a guy, I’m a StarWars fan, blah blah blah!

but I mean come on! the Hologram is really cool. I would LOVE to actually see if with my eyes. And it’s only $5,000, really not expensive I see this technology going forward really quickly. Who is behind this technology?

    • OsamaBinLaden says:

you know what cool about this holographic thing that is if they create another version which is u see a holographic images of the person you are talking , whether you talking in COMPUTER or cellular phone, size as big as regular human size.

  • forEducation says:

this will be a great option for training and prototyping. complex schematics can be first display before the actual object is build. e.g. building, manufacturing structures, 3D modelling of lastest jet fighter, engine, etc. you can bet there will be product coming out for these purpose soon enough.

As the article suggested, this is a good sales tool for business. Not really viable for every folks at this price point.
