Would you buy a 3D camcorder? They’re now available.
DXG, the makers of those pocket-sized video recorders, has just announced the availability of the DXG 3D camcorder and 3D Media Player bundle, allowing those who want to capture memories to do so in three-dimensions! And similar to the Nintendo 3DS, no glasses are required.

While we haven’t yet seen it in action, DXG has announced the availability of the DXG 3D Camcorder and 3D Media Player bundle — which doesn’t require glasses to playback the 3D videos and photos on the camcorder or 7-inch media player.
The US $600 bundle consists of the DXG 3D Pocket Camcorder and 3D 7-inch Media Player, available on the Hammacher Schlemmer website.
The 3D camcorder features a “pistol grip” design, similar to the Sanyo cams, and 3D dual-lens technology to shoot in eye-popping 3D. The camera also has a 3.2-inch 3D LCD display capable of showing 3D.
The world’s smallest 3D pocket cam — as the company claims — records VGA (640 x 480 pixels) 3D video and takes 3D still images up to 5-megapixels. So, nope, it’s not in HD. But it can shoot photos and videos in 2D, too, if you prefer.
You’ll also need a SD memory card (up to 16GB) as the camcorder only ships with 128MB of integrated Flash memory. Videos are saved as H.264 AVI files. Also included in the box are HDMI and USB/AV cables for playback on your 3DTV (or regular HDTV) or computer.
The DXG 3D Media Player, by the way, features a 7-inch “parallax barrier auto-stereoscopic LCD display” — now that’s a mouthful — which can show 3D photos and videos on in touchscreen. It also has a built-in MP3 music player, alarm clock and calendar.
We asked ifyou can buy the camera by itself — the answer is “no” as it’s sold as a bundle only.
Sync readers, would you buy a 3D camcorder to capture memories with?

All the big named companies are investing a lot of money in 3D technology but I am not convinced that it will ever catch on.A 3D movie once in a while is enough 3D for me.It is really just an illusion of depth
hi there you are wrong bob companies are inveisting in 3d every thing just not just 3d movies only we have 3d movies 3d youtube 3d netflix 3d weather stations like i sent a email too davis insterments and oregon scintific about 3d weather stations 3d dopplar radars 3d computers 3d tvs and yes the nintendo 3ds will have a 3d camcorder built in soo you have 3 cameras on nintendo 3ds soo nintendo will mass market 3d camcorders
Sure,I may be wrong.I’m just saying that 3D is not a must have item for me.If it was an extra $100 as an added feature on a 1080P TV I would probably buy it when my 2 year old Sony dies.I’m just not convinced that the market is there. We shall see.
I read that Samsung has sold over 1,000,000 3D TVs as of August 2010. That is just Samsung, not the other top 5 or so who are right on their heals. Just look at a weekly Best Buy flyer, somebody is buying those things. My advise, get in the 3D media game and sell 3D products on the ground level.
OK, yes we are 3D addicts. We have the Samsung 58″ Plasma 8000 series 3D TV setup right down to dual Polk Audio twin 100w powered sub-woofers and 7.2, 1.4 pass thru amp. I thought that our 42″ Panasonic plasma generation 9 was as good as TV was going to get bought in 2006. However, when getting the new PN-C8000 I think is the model, we are blown away by the 2D and the 3D. Scrambling for 3D material and content it was natural to buy a camera. We pre-ordered the Aiptek only $200. We liked the 3D videos as they looked like they were coming from a much more expensive source. As fate would have it, the Aiptek didn’t survive the firmware update a week before our European vacation. Aiptek was great and said they would replace with new unit but 3 weeks turn around. I had a discount coupon at Best Buy and picked up the Fuji W3 3D (a 3D camera/camcorder 10mp). All the owner reviews on Amazon were 5 star . As soon as I got it home, I saw a negative review (which always happens, no matter how good the reviews before we buy something). An hour after bringing home, Amazon posted that you can have the Panasonic super $1,400 camcorder in two days if purchase today. OK, what to do. I used the cheap Aiptek (well worth $200) and got hooked on filming 3D. We have a like new Canon higher end SX20IS which we love for 2D, stills and reasonable HD video. We also have a slightly used Panasonic HD Video camcorder which we don’t use much since getting the Canon. I read the Fuji W3 3D new camcorder manual from cover to cover and other then 1080 against 720 and 18x zoom against 3x, is it worth $1000 more. Plus the Fuji takes 2d/3d stills with both lenses to make some interesting 2d wide and tele at the same time stills which the Fuji is capable of. So with the knowledge that the prices will come down on the Panasonic and the competitors will show nicer stuff for less we are going to keep the Fuji with it’s 3x zoom and a boat load of features and make do. Keep in mind the Fuji does quite nice stills and the Flash doesn’t wash out closeups like our Canon and my Epic do. We haven’t had time to play with the Fuji 2d video yet, it has mixed reviews but we don’t care we have other 2d choices. The articles we read said that the Fuji had features the new Sonys don’t and at over all is a much better value with plenty of goodies for today’s market. Hope this helps someone else who is on the fence. Don’t go without, at least buy the Aiptek with all 4 of it’s features and decent 3D video filming or if you don’t care about the extra $1000 for the Panasonic buy it. Fuji will print your stills for a staggering $7 bucks, but just save the memories in 3D now and the cheaper technology will follow. I don’t want my grand kids growing up in a 3D world and their childhood was taken in 2D. I personally think that 3D will be like when B&W turned to color. Actually since Avator the Korean 4D theaters have tripled in constuction. We get bored so easily and we need that extra somethung somethung to perk up our daily lives. Right? We are retired now but as a child my father taught me to buy the best tools I could afford at the time because you use them for the future.
Wow!Just imagine what you could have bought if you had forgone the European vacation.LOL.
Thanks Bob,
One of my kids owns a travel agency and the kids kicked in an gave us the basic trip for Christmas present. So,we would have bought the same camera. However,if we wanted to spend some crazy money,we would have to buy that new Panny that is made to make Hollywood movies, at a mere $21,000. But since we don’t know anything about making movies, unless they are grand kids, kicking balls and getting their diapers changed counts. LOL But back to 3D cameras, I personally would not buy the camera above because it is only 640×480 and not HD. After a few minutes playing with the Fuji we are starting to wish we had our little Aiptek to take along. It is sooo easy to use and it comes with software that can convert the 3D to something that you can see on any HD TV or Monitor. But it does not have optical zoom only 4x digital zoom, and is feature poor. The Aiptek is capable tf 2D and 3D stills and 2D and 3D video and takes up to a 32GB card. Aiptek is probably the over all very best value, but this Fuji is solid and feel kind of heavy duty but expect a learning curve and lots of adjustments.
