Father’s Day special? Walmart selling $88 Blu-ray Disc player
How much would you pay for an Internet-ready Blu-ray Disc player? Well, if you’re not picky on brand names, Walmart is selling an $88 Seiki Blu-ray Disc player for a limited time. Here are the specs on this high-def movie player.
If dad loves movies and he’s been holding out on a new Blu-ray Disc player, Walmart has a special on a Seiki Blu-ray Disc Player for $88. No, we haven’t heard of this brand name either, nor have we tested out this device, but it has a lot of interesting features and a 12-month warranty.
The Seiki BD660 Blu-ray Disc player is a BD Profile 2.0-based machine, therefore it meets the latest specifications for the format including support for BD-Live (online connectivity via Ethernet connection) and BonusView (picture-in-picture functionality). The player can also accept downloadable firmware updates to add new features or fix any issues that might arise.
Along with the single tray that supports most of the flavours of Blu-ray, DVD and CD (including recordable and rerecordable discs), this player also has a USB port (with DiVX and H.264 video file support), it plays AVCHD video from camcorders, and of course, upconverts DVDs to near HD-quality.
Readers, anyone try out this inexpensive Blu-ray Disc player? Some comments from users are at this forum, but we’d love to hear from you.

Seiki (SAY kee) is Japanese the word has several meanings including a man’s name. The meaning translates a one who is very happy, loves to talk and loves children. For a girl it means Star and Beginning.
Seiki can be compounded to emphasize the meaning of a company or product too being used in many business titles. The meaning generally means true heart, true spirit, and true character.
It also can be used to refer to the genitals. It is the name of a radical group Seikijuku literally means Sane Thinkers School, makes one wonder.
In all my travels through Japan yet have I to see a “consumer” Electronics Company by the same name not compounded. However for sure this is Japanese company who might be making a bold move into the North American markets.
In general, the word is used in too many ways to elaborate here. At least you now know the origin of the country that might be a comfort to some that it is not Chinese made.
Wow, thanks Phil! You rock.
Marc
how can i get it to stream on the inter net thanks
Seiki may be a Japanese word, but it is definitely a Chinese made product.

Well, at first I couldn’t believe this…. a BDP under $100??!!????
But then we picked one up, gave it to my mum-in-law… she absolutely loves it! (esp. since now she can borrow our new movies again).
So far we’ve had absolutely no issues with it. I think I’m going to get another one for my dad for Father’s day, and I’ll keep you posted!
Thanks Greg, Good to know they work!

Has anyone tried playing a PAL DVD in one of these? We recently bought a second TV, and are looking for a player that will play PAL DVD’s. Blue Ray is not a necessity (we have a PS3 on our primary TV), but for this price, it would definitely be a nice addition.
Just purchased one of these machines, will play all region dvd’s on either pal or ntsc telly. region change very easy,on computer, type in dvd players hack list and on that site you should find the instructions on how to change the codes. if,not, contact me and I will email you the instructions.
Hello Mr. Lavigne.
I would like to make the SEIKI BD660 DVD player all regions DVDs player. Would you inform me what is the correct code for this conversion?
Thank you,
I. Colek
sorry I took so long to answer. I do not logue onto this site too often. For region change. machine on,wait for green colour seiki screen. on remote, press setup, then press 8520,now you will see screen to change codes, for regular dvd’s,press 0,for blue ray, press 1 for region A,press 2 for region B,press 3 for region C. each time you use a blue ray from one of these regions, you might have to reset the blue ray region when you play a different region blue ray dvd.
I picked one up last week. Great deal on the player, not so good on the extras I have to buy.
The system I connected it to is a bit older, so my surround amp doesn’t have any HDMI inputs, and the TV only has one (this is my 3rd HDMI device in that room). So first I had to get a new 4-1 HDMI switch (1/2 price at “The Source”), and another HDMI cable (2/3 off at the same place).
Got everything hooked up, changed the DVD region code to all regions, played a couple of NTSC DVD’s that wouldn’t play on the old DVD player, played a PAL DVD with no problems.
Just one issue. Some of the remote codes are the same as for my TV. So I told the Mrs. we would have to get a new TV to go with the BR player. And I might as well get a new surround amp at the same time with HDMI.
So now I’m looking at more than $3,000 in extras for a $100 Blue-ray player.
I don’t think she’s going to go for it. ;-)
I picked one up today and connected it using component video cables directly to the TV and the audio to my home theatre. I don’t have any blu-ray disks yet but the regular DVD’s seem to play pretty well after setting up the unit. The only problem I have is where to go to get the software update if any. The manual tells you how to do it but no web address to download it from. In fact I don’t see any company name or web address anywhere in the manual.
An update to my previous message. I have found the website on the box it came in but no support so updating does not exist.

Got it today. (in Ottawa)
Works great.
Plays just about anything.
I tried a backup rip of Serenity in H.264.
Looks great.
I’m using the component video on a large Toshiba HD CRT. Getting really nice results.
The upstairs TV with HDMI will look even better I’m sure.
Anyone tried using the Ethernet connection to stream content directly from their pc? I’m hoping the Ethernet port in not only for firmware updates.
So I had no luck with the LAN port for streaming. However the unit will stream from a USB memory key or thumb drive so that’s an option for getting movies to the unit from your pc. Haven’t tried an external HDD yet.
It is also my last name….absolutely amazed that these thing exist!
does any 1 know if this deck is still being sold at wm’s in the montreal area? thanks! :)
unit will be on sale for 3 days as of tomorrow (Montreal area) for $49
REGION FREE OPERATION:
SEIKI BD660 Walmart DVD Player
————————–
Ensure no disc is in player
Power-up the player from ‘standby’ to ‘on’ with the remote
Once the green ‘Seiki’ wallpaper appears press the ‘Setup’
button
Press these numbers sequentially: 8, 5, 2, 0
This brings up a ‘Factory’ menu where you can change the DVD
region code (use Region 0 for region free) and you can change
the Blu-Ray region too (there’s no ‘region free’ option, so
you’ll need to change it per disk)

Can it play rmvb files?
Hi there, I have a Seiki Blu-Ray Player, and I purchased a universal remote to program it with. Unfortunately, these players don’t seem to be compatible with any type of remote, as I can’t find a code for it to work.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Hello Sarah:
Why do you need a universal remote? A remote came with it. Personally I have a Logitech remote which I have programed with my TV, Home Theatre and the Seiki Blu-Ray and it works great so I only have to use one remote.
hi i have a seiki blu-ray disc player model bd660 but i need a manual for it
