Study: You’re addicted to Facebook
According to industry tracker Hitwise, social networking site Facebook has eclipsed Google to become the most visited website in the United States for the first time. While a Retrevo report suggests you can’t live without your Facebook fix. True?
According to the Hitwise finding, Facebook saw an incredible 185 percent increase last week compared to visits during the same week in 2009 — compared to Google’s mere 9 percent increase over the same period.
That being said, keep in mind the tracker only counts Google’s search site and not other Google-owned properties, such as YouTube, Gmail or Google Maps.
Still, this is a major milestone for Facebook, which only opened its virtual doors a scant 6 years ago.
As of Febuary 2010, Facebook has more than 400 million user accounts worldwide. Er, that’s about 12 times the entire Canadian population.
Perhaps, then, it’s no surprise Retrevo, one of the largest consumer electronics review and shopping sites in the world, has just published a report today that suggests we’re “addicted” to social media.
For instance, this Retrevo study found 48 percent of people check or update FaceBook and/or Twitter after they go to bed. Yes, that’s after they go to bed,
In fact, 18 percent of people under 25 years old can’t go more than a couple hours without checking in on FaceBook (11 percent for those over 25 years old), while 61 percent of people under 25 have to check in on FaceBook at least once a day (compared to 55 percent of respondants over 25).
So be honest – where do you fit in here? Personally, I’m not a fan of Twitter but I do in fact use Facebook daily. How long can you go without Facebook or Twitter?

I dont have facebook… I figure people in the future are all going to be wearing thick glasses since they check facebook after bed, lol.
I signed off Facebook because it was so boreing and a real time waster.
And yet you are spending your time reading useless articles on computer. Good trade.
I just cancelled Facebook recently and have never been on Twitter. I have no use for advertisements or surveys of how good you are in bed or what nots…I like the email, I don’t mind calling now and then, cell phone is only used to call ahead if I’m late or in a pinch and I definetely love seeing people in person…now that’s a life!
The picture’s is extremly random. WHOA! O_o
I used face book daily in fact id say i was addicted, It did cause problems in my marriage as my husband is anti face book, so I recently deleted my account which does bother me just because I liked having contact with friends far away and that I do not see often. but I do find I have more time and energy to do other things which is nice.
Don’t know about facebook. I hear so many negative comments that I never bothered to open an account. Saw a neat news item regarding Twitter – someone appears to have coined a new word: Twitosphere. Couldn’t be more appropriate. I’m not a fan of timewasting even if it’s limited to just a few characters.

in reguards to Facebook i choose not to get on as often because i chooose not to get invovled in the useless drama that occurs all the time on that website, When i do choose to log-in to my facebook account i am only on there briefly i don’t spend hours at a time wasting my life and trying to figure out who is on and who is saying what i check what i need to hence inbox messages notifications and friend requests and then i am off. but as a twitter fan that is a entirely different blog…… <3
