How to download select files in a ZIP, RAR, or ISO archive
Nobody enjoys downloading a huge archive when there are only one or two files in it that you want. One Firefox add-on makes grabbing certain files possible.
One of my favourite tools in modern computing is the ability to create and share archives in .zip or .rar formats. Being able to package files into one archive that takes up less space and can be shared readily rather than sending off a gaggle of links is far more convenient.
However, there are times I wish that an archive wasn’t the way certain files were shared. Yes, it’s great in most instances, but what about the times when you just need one of the many files stored in that .Zip or .Rar? No one wants to download a 10 MB archive to get one photo or a 40 MB music archive to get to a 4MB song.
ArchView is a useful Firefox extension that helps address the occasional problem of wanting only one slice of the large pie that is the average .Zip or .RAR file. It allows users to pick and choose which files they want to acquire without downloading an entire RAR, ZIP, or an ISO CD image. It’s free and works with Firefox 2.0 – 3.6. Here’s how to use ArchView:
- Download Archview from the Firefox add-ons gallery.
- Click the “Add to Firefox” button and allow the add-on to install.
- Close and restart Firefox
- The next time you click on a compatible archive, it will open in ArchView for preview.
- Select the file or files that you wish to download and press File > Export List.
- If you want to download the entire archive, simply press the “File” icon and Save.

I don’t suppose this would work with torrents? ;-)
Nope, no torrent support, but I’m pretty sure there are dedicated torrent programs that have that feature.
For torrents, I use BitTorrent. Download torrent then just select files u want in there rather than the whole thing
I get “Archview not available for Windows”

you can use a web based service like http://www.openrarfile.com/open-rar-file
nothing to download
