Would you pay for a ’sarcasm’ emoticon?

Ever get the sense your “smiley face” emoticon was misinterpreted in an email or text message? Were you trying to use sarcasm, yet the recipient thought you were serious? Introducing the “SarcMark.”

sm_bigbuttonHow much would you pay to have an emoticon that denotes sarcasm?

If $2 sounds about right, you could download Paul Sak’s SarcMark, a trademarked sentence-ender you can use in emails or text messages when you’re trying to be sarcastic.

After all, you might want to tell a friend you love the snow this time of year when you really mean you hate it. Or how much you hate getting a raise. Or what you really think of your friend’s new blouse.

The SarcMark is somewhat oval in shape – with a dot in the middle, not unlike a dot you’d find in a punctuation mark, question mark or exclamation mark.

The software works on multiple computers and phones, including popular software like Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express, social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter), Google Talk and more. A list of all supported platforms are here.

On a PC, it can be created with this shortcut:

Think this is a clever idea? If so, would you buy it?

Here’s a (very unfunny) video about the SarcMark:
