Would you buy a Bluetooth watch for your BlackBerry?
In case you haven’t heard about the inPulse from Allerta, this Bluetooth-enabled watch – available for pre-order – alerts you to incoming emails, text messages and calls without having to fumble for your smartphone. Um, but do we really need this gadget?
Of course we’ll reserve our formal judgement on the Allerta inPulse watch for when we actually get our hands on one, but this upcoming peripheral for your smartphone sounds a bit redundant to me.
The inPulse uses Bluetooth technology to wirelessly connect to your nearby BlackBerry – which might be tucked away in a pocket or purse – and its colour OLED screen shows you incoming email headers, text messages and names or numbers of someone calling.
The idea is you can casually glance at your wrist instead of digging out your phone, the latter of which might be considered rude if you’re in a meeting or on a lunch date.
Available now for pre-order (US $149 + US $15 shipping), the inPulse also has a built-in vibrating motor to ensure you don’t miss an important message, call, calendar alerts or alarms. Allerta says the watch is fully customizable to alert you to what matters most.
I dunno, glancing at your watch might be more convenient than pulling out your phone, sure, but how lazy can you get? If it’s not a good time to look at your phone, then how is it any different than looking at your wrist? And if it’s a call or email you need to address, then you’re still being rude by calling or writing the person back, no?
What do you think?
If you’re interested, the watch will be available this April.
Ideally, a watch phone hybrid makes more sense to me, such as the LG video phone watch we covered here on Sync (and a video of it here).
