ColorWare: Painting your gadgets so you don’t have to
Bored with your MacBook Pro’s grey finish? ColorWare offers an interesting service that allows you to either send in or purchase compatible gadgets and customize them with a multitude of different colors.
Most manufactures offer different colors and designs for their products, but most of the time the designs available for you to choose aren’t what you want. Thankfully there is a little alternative to this dilemma – sort of. ColorWare, a company that exists “to create and transform products beyond what the original manufacturers intended,” allows you to either send in or purchase a product, be it an iMac or an Xbox 360, and customize the exterior colors to pretty much whatever you want. The company offers a huge range of solid, metallic and pearlescent colors, and there isn’t too much not to like about the service other than if your product in question isn’t supported.
As I said above, you can either buy a new product from ColorWare and select whatever colors you want on it, or you can send in a gadget you already own and ask them to paint it for you. They’ll mail your newly decked-out gadget to you in around three weeks. For example, ColorWare will sell you a new unlocked Google Nexus One smartphone for around $880, but you can also send in the one you already have and pay around $175 to get the exterior colors altered. You can change the frame, back, bottom and camera ring colors of this smartphone. If you aren’t sure what colors look the best on your gadget, you can click the “Brainstorm” button which suggests you a good color scheme, or click the “Share” button and show off your design to a friend and see what they think of it.

In the end it’s an interesting service for sure, although it can be expensive. Considering many products these days come in various shades of black or white, you can get ColorWare to paint it (whatever “it” may be) bright pink, or acid green. It’s up to you! You can see ColorWare’s site here.
