Apple’s App Store tops 3 billion downloads

It’s one heck of a milestone: Apple announced today it has registered its 3 billionth download (yes, billionth with a “b”) from its mega-popular App Store (part of iTunes). You surprised?

app_storeiPhone and iPod touch users have been busy.

“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months—this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, in a company statement that hit the wire this morning. “The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

Frankly, I’m not surprised. Everyone and their brother has an iPhone or iPod touch and it’s hard to resist chatting about the latest apps when I sit down with friends for lunch and we pull out our smartphones.

Lately, my favourite app to impress friends is Dragon Dictation, while I’m still completely addicted to Bejeweled Blitz (part of Bejeweled 2) and the RPG epic, Ravensword. Oh, and I need my daily Facebook fix, too.

The App Store (part of iTunes) now boasts 20 categories, ranging from games and business to news and travel to health and reference. iPod touch and iPhone users can preview and purchase on a PC/Mac or wirelessly on the device itself.

How often do you visit the App Store? Weekly? Daily? Multiple times a day? What’s your favourite app du jour?

Congrats, Apple!

oh gawd who cares? I find it very annoying when everyone and their brother pulls out their dumb-smart phones and starts yakking about them incessantly. It is way too much. Honestly, do you all NEED THESE SMART PHONES AND APPS to live? How did you ever survive before? I think you all did just fine.
It’s quite pathetic if you ask me.
(no offense to anyone it’s just one girl’s opinion)

Has anyone noticed that iTunes increased the prices for d/l by 30% without any sort of explanation? It’s time to send them a message, STOP patronizing them!
