The Internet was never designed to be secure; in academia, we used it to share papers and research data with other universities and researchers in various industries including major drug companies. It was and still is an open system and in its present state cannot be made 100% secure no matter what banks, government, and security firms tell you. The unsecure Internet is why personal and corporate encryption technologies are so popular. Now geotagging is becoming mainstream one would do well to learn the personal ramifications.

One would not open their wallet or purse, permanently posting all available information onto a board for all to see and copy. Once done you can have no expectation of privacy, you cannot delete the information since it will reside in another permanent databases. Someone you do not know or would never want to know can now find out all about you, some of your friends and perhaps make contact with you, usually when you least expect and at their best opportunity.
