V-Screen brings pseudo-3D to your PSP

An interesting concept, and you don’t have to use multicolour glasses to get the full effect.

v-screen-3d-for-psp-in-useTired of depth-less 2D graphics on your PSP? Maybe RealView has the answer for you. They’ve come up with some sort of  ”depth-enhancing” screen that makes gameplay on your PSP “similar to a 3D experience.” And it does so without any kinds of electronic components.

Basically, the V-Screen (as it is named) is a big fresnel lens (the kind of lens used to make traffic lights seem brighter) mounted on a plastic frame that then clips onto your PSP. This lens then magnifies the screen of your PSP a little, giving the illusion of depth. While it may seem quite nifty, in reality it looks bulky and will definitely get you some weird looks in the cafeteria. At least you don’t have to put up with using red/blue-colour glasses.

It does appear to work as described, though, according to the folks at Ars Technica. They say that “the effect was particularly apparent in racing games, and it added a very impressive dimension to both Gran Turismo PSP and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge.” Sounds good to me.

Then there’s the price. Whenever it starts selling in stores, it will be priced at $40. How about you, readers? Would you be willing to actually purchase a V-Screen for your PSP? Or do you think that this whole idea is trash?
