The Desk: a computer desk that’s a computer AND a desk

By Comments (2)

I cannot deny the fact that I want this.

Most people know that a good desk is the key for a good computing experience. Will Urbina of Will U. Design wanted a computer fitted with LEDs, plexiglass windows and the like, while at the same time his scratched-up old desk was in need of a replacement. So Will solved both problems by integrating a computer inside a custom-designed desk. The top was made of thick plexiglass, allowing the user to look “into” the computer while it is running.

Also, while you would probably expect this kind of casemod to be fitted with low-power low-speed components, in fact it is the opposite. Will managed to cram an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU overclocked to 3.5Ghz, 8GB total memory, an ATI Radeon HD2900XT videocard, a dedicated soundcard, two 550w power supplies and 1.72TB of combined storage capacity into The Desk. An attachment called “The Tower” can hold up to six additional hard drives, which, in its current configuration of five drives, gives Will a whopping 3.62TB of combined storage. Two monitors, a slide-out drawer and a bevy of LEDs finish off the package.

As you would probably expect, The Desk has won more than a few casemodding awards, but unlike most casemods, Will actually uses his creation as a primary PC. Indeed, the hardware is quite respectable and the desk itself seems comfortable. There’s not much more you could ask for. You can see Will’s site here.
