Star Wars Weather is spaced out
Another “creative work” from the web. This one displays the weather for your city, Star Wars style.
Here’s a little something for the multitude of Star Wars fans out there. Someone named Tom Scott has created something called “Star Wars Weather,” a little site that briefly shows off the current weather conditions and temps for your respective city, with a little twist.
Visit the site and it will default to London, UK. If you type in Toronto, you will be greeted with a view of Hoth, the frozen ice planet where the rebels had their base at the start of The Empire Strikes Back, along with the accurate temperature and weather conditions. Depending on which city you choose, you will get one of the eight possible Star Wars planets: Hoth, Dagobah, Kamino, Bespin, Naboo, Endor, Yavin 4 and Tatooine.
There’s also unique commentary for each of the eight screens. For Hoth, it reads “Cold, ice, freezing desolation.” Below that is a smaller text that refers to a scene in one of the Star Wars movies: for Bespin it’s “And Lando is going to betray you” and for Dagobah it’s “Also Yoda might be hiding somewhere.”
There’s a small surprise (or disappointment?) hidden in the site as well: if your chosen city isn’t listed in the database Tom Scott uses for a reference (or you hit an error,) a black screen comes up with the words “It’s like Alderaan out there,” and “Try again, or try another city.” For those who don’t know, Alderaan was Princess Leia’s home world that was destroyed by Darth Vader and the Death Star.

And that’s pretty much it. An interesting idea for sure, and something that I would like to see made into a Windows Gadget or something. You can check the site out here.

Depicting Toronto, On, Canada as a barren winter wonderland is, well, lololololol ridiculous to say the least and when Toronto does find out what a Canadian winter is really all about. They, Toronto, have to call in the ARMY to dig themselves out. Lolololol, ahh sorry lol, no really this time, sorry lolol. You guys stick to global warming, leave depictions of true winter to the rest of us. lololol….
You do understand typing “lolol” multiple times prevents anyone from caring what you have to say at all. You come off as having the maturity of a 12 year old. While we’re on the subject of coming off as an intelligent person, try making your sentences make sense, and I’m not talking about just run-ons. I’m talking about stuff like this: “…ridiculous to say the least and when Toronto does find out what a Canadian winter is really all about.” What does that even mean?
Please, in the future, when you’re going to post, at least proof read your comment to make sure you don’t sound like a mentally retarded child.
I think you may have a speach impediment, better get that checked out. ¿lolololol? dumbass
You sound like a giggling 12 year old. Get a life, loser.
Found this site a couple days ago. Most of the eastern and northern US are also Hoth. It is temperature based. For instance, yesterday morning Orlando FL was Naboo, but later became Endor.
Heck, even Death Valley, CA was Hoth for a time.
Have yet to find Kamino or Dagobah yet….
Wonder what city he’d show for Mustafar…?
Pretty interesting article. I love StarWars stuff!
Nice find I am a huge star wars fan never seen this site before!
… I’d love it this could be made into an active desktop background compatible with both Windows and Macs. Cool beans!
That would be quite awesome.
