Melty Chocolate Cellphone looks tasty
Another “gem” from Japan. Seriously, who wouldn’t want a phone that looks like chocolate? (Okay, me.)
Well, well, well… what do we have here, a phone made out of chocolate? Not quite, but a collaboration between electronics maker Sharp and an accessory company based in Tokyo called Q-Pot brings Japan a new pair of limited-edition clamshell phones – dubbed the “Melty Chocolate Cellphone.” As you would imagine, these phones predictably look like chocolate bars when closed, but it doesn’t stop there… even the user interface menus on these things are designed to look like chocolate. Is this taking things too far? I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
Anyway, you can choose from either Melty Bitter (aka brown) and Melty Strawberry (pinkish) colours, and it seems only 13,000 of these phones will be made – and you can only get them from Japan’s largest cellular provider, NTT Docomo. The specs are fairly respectable too – with 3″ WVGA ASV displays, 8mp CCD cameras, 1-seg digital TV tuners, Bluetooth, a waterproof design, and many others, it is clear that the Melty Chocolate Cellphone is not merely a “fashion over function” deal. Feature-wise they seem to be very usable phones. Check out this video:
Intrigued? Asking some friends about what they think about these phones brings up stuff like “ohh I bet the UI sucks” or “nah I’d rather get an iPhone” or even as far as “OH MY GAWD THOSE ARE AWESOME!!” I bet these phones cater mainly to a female audience – many of the negative comments came from guys, after all, and I probably wouldn’t want to pull out a ringing Melty Bitter-coloured one out of my pocket at the local Burger King. It’s completely up to you though, of course.
What about you? Would you import (or get, if you’re in Japan) one of these phones just for the sake of the chocolaty design?
