Lexmark unveils $7 ink cartridge (seriously)

By Comments (7)

How much are you willing to spend on printer ink? If you’re like most Canadians, it’s about $40 or more. Well, Lexmark has just announced a ridiculously low price for some of its black ink offerings.

105XLLexmark Pro 905If you own a Lexmark Platinum (Pro 905) or Prestige (Pro 805) all-in-one product, you can pick up the new 105XL black ink cartridge for just $6.99.

Yes, $7. This isn’t a typo.

Lexmark says this cartridge yields about 510 standard pages, so it comes to a little over 1.3 cents per page, the lowest black printing cost in the inkjet industry.

So, how much do the printers cost, then? The wireless multifunction printers cost $299 for the Prestige (print, scan, copy; with touch-screen display) or $399 for the Platinum (print, scan, copy, fax with dual-paper trays; with touch-screen).

Lexmark also announced a few other goodies for its new wireless all-in-one printers: new Vizix print technology (includes separate ink cartridges); the first 802.11n printer (for faster speeds and greater ranges); an “eco mode” that lets you save on paper and energy; and an innovative business card scanning solution that automatically uploads contact information to the most commonly used address book applications (such as Microsoft Outlook).

More info is available at the Lexmark Canada website.

Question: Why don’t they work on creating a cheaper ink cartridge for the printers that they already have in the hands of the consumers?
Why to unveil this marvelous and cheap ink along with a printer that cost you five times the average cost of an ALL IN ONE printer?
C’mon this is just another bait for lure the consumers!!!
Be wise, stick with your old printer and for sure within the next two years you won’t be spending 300 bucks on ink…..unless you run a printing solutions busssines.

I always thought that when things get into mass production that the cost goes down. Well it seems to me that ink cartdriges for various brands seem to be selling lots and always available so why has the cost not gone down?

Personally I think we are been taken to the cleaners. Just look at the big auto companies how they spend. When the Canadian dollar was on par and above the usa dollar look what Canadians had discovered about price differences over the border. It is all the more reason I have not accepted to buy a cell phone yet because I still think the price is over priced and this is one out of many products including ink cartridges.

Cheap ink sure but now I have to buy a new printer. Some deal!

  • nick says:

yeah lets say its expensive.. but in the long run, youll save alot of penny out of it.. since it has 5 years warranty… and compare a 7 dollar ink to a 40 dollar ink..

  • Jeremy says:

Just got this printer today, I stocked up on the ink just in case they raise the price later on.

  • I have a Dell Color Printer 725. The ink cartridge is series 6 p/n JF333. I need to know where the refill holes are. I’m not sure what a resivoir is or anything I just need to know where I can find the holes to put the refill ink. Can you help me
