How to make the taskbar in Windows 7 work like the taskbar in Windows Vista

By Comments (6)

Hate the new taskbar in Windows 7? Here’s how to make it similar to the taskbar in previous versions of Windows.

When you start up Windows 7 for the very first time, probably the first thing that you’ll notice is that the taskbar has been substantially overhauled into a Mac-style “dock”. While most people will probably love the new taskbar, some will invariably hate it. If you fall into the latter camp, here’s how you can easily make the Windows 7 taskbar work like the taskbar in earlier versions of Windows.

1. Right-click on a blank area of the taskbar and choose Properties.

2. Under Taskbar Buttons, choose Never Combine.

3. Right-click any icons that are currently pinned to the taskbar and choose Unpin this program from taskbar.

And that’s all there is to it. Your Windows 7 taskbar now has the familiar feel of Windows XP and Vista.

I’d recommend not making this change until you’ve used Windows 7 for a while as, once you’ve spent some time with the new taskbar, you’ll probably come to the conclusion that it’s actually an improvement on the taskbar in previous versions of Windows.
