Zoom Case by Nyko is a cool accessory for your Nintendo DSi
Want to enhance the photos you take with your Nintendo DSi and protect it at the same time? Check out the Zoom Case by Nyko Technologies.
When my son got a Nintendo DSi we had a blast playing around with the various “lenses” of the built-in camera. We were nearly wetting ourselves looking at the pictures we took using the distortion lens.
With only 0.3 megapixels, the DSi’s camera is obviously not meant to replace a regular digital camera, but it is fun to play with. One thing the built-in camera doesn’t have is a zoom feature, which kinda sucks if you want to take a picture of something without getting your butt off the couch. Nyko Technologies have created an accessory for the DSi, called the Zoom Case, which eliminates this problem and offers protection for your DSi.
When reviewing the product, I found it did everything it was designed to do. The 8x optical zoom lens takes close-up photos that are fairly crisp. The hard shell case protects the DSi from scratches and doesn’t need to be taken off when you want to play games. Oh, and the lens can be removed from the protective case, making it a more versatile product.
The Zoom Case costs $25 USD. If the product was simply a zoom lens and not a case, I wouldn’t say it would be worth the money. Because the product also acts as a protective case for the DSi, I think it’s a pretty cool accessory for my son’s DSi. The other thing I like about the Zoom Case is that it doesn’t use batteries or power from the DSi.
The two images below are “before and after” shots. What do you think? A waste of money or a cool gadget for your kids?

It’s a great idea. I think we’re going to see more and more camera-enhacement products on the market as more and more gadgets ship with embeded cameras. Case in point: http://www.sync-blog.com/sync/2009/10/owles-bubo-turns-your-iphone-into-a-full-on-camcorder.html
