Backing up your PC files? Check out the Clickfree C2
In this space I’ve written quite a bit about a Toronto-based product called Clickfree. These drives, when connected to a computer, automatically back-up your important files without you having to do anything. The Clickfree C2 is the best offering to date.
We all know how important it is to back-up our irreplaceable files but only a small percentage of PC users know what files to copy over to an external hard drive, USB thumbstick or recordable DVD.
Clickfree products, however, take all the guesswork out of the process for you by automatically finding your computer’s most important files — photos, videos, documents, emails, contacts, bookmarks, and so on — and backs them up onto the USB-attached drive. A family of products like this exist from Toronto-based Storage Appliance Corporation, and they works with both PCs and Macs.
Built-in software launches when you plug it in, plus you can uncheck boxes if you don’t want, say, your music collection or camcorder footage backed-up or whatever.
But the new Clickfree C2 is the best of the best.
Available now in glossy black or white, this portable drive ($159.99 for 250GB or $219.99 for 500GB of storage, with free shipping) also features a scheduling function, so you can set it to back-up your files periodically, plus it offers password-based 256-bit hardware-based encryption security to prevent prying eyes from accessing your information in case the drive is lost or stolen.
The C2, which has a flip-out USB connector on the back (so you won’t lose the cable), can also be used to copy iPod media and playlists to another computer, such as a spare laptop — which is something iTunes doesn’t let you do.
Finally, if you get a new PC and want to repopulate all your folders with files from another computer, simply click the Restore tab and Clickfree will put everything back into the same place for you. This is handy for those who migrate to Windows 7.
Have you tried a Clickfree product? Thoughts?

I have used the Click Free Multi PC backup unit for about a year. It seems to work very well, although I have not had the opportunity or need to test its Restore process. Hopefully it works as well as the backup. I backup my computer every week because the programme reminds me if it exceeds this time frame.
