Video: Block inappropriate video games on any console, PC

Oh, your kids aren’t going to like this very much. But as a parent I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to help create these videos, to teach how to block access to certain console and PC games.

Nintendo WiiYours truly worked with the amazing Danielle Parr of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada to create a series of videos for parents. The goal? To discuss tips and tricks to ensuring your kids aren’t playing inappropriate video and computer games.

You might not know, for example, each of the three consoles — Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 — let you select which games can be played on the machine, such as “Teen”- or “Mature”-rated titles (even if you’re not there).

Some machines also let you select how long the gamer can play before the console shuts down for the day.

And so we hope you find the following 5 videos helpful. Please watch the intro and then select the video for the platform(s) in your home (or plan to buy).
