Secret ‘Easter eggs’ planted on Monsters vs. Aliens disc
If you’ve bought or rented Dreamworks Home Entertainment’s animated comedy Monsters vs. Aliens, the studio has planted some hidden goodies on the disc — if you know where to find them. We do.
In case you haven’t heard the term as it pertains to DVDs or Blu-ray Discs, an “Easter egg” is a little extra something planted on a disc that rewards movie fans for finding it.
It’s not usually during the film itself, but rather, buried somewhere in the menu screens. By pressing the correct button combination on the DVD remote (and it’s different for every film…if it even has an egg) you will be treated to something, such as a hidden blooper reel, alternate ending, brief interview clip, game, soundtrack and so on. And no, this unlockable goodie isn’t listed on the back of the DVD box.
So, on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Monsters vs. Aliens, you can find an Easter egg that leads to some great stuff.
On the DVD:
Pop the disc into your DVD player and then select the “Ginormous Extras” section. Once inside, simply tap the Up arrow on your remote and you’ll see the words “Do Not Press!” illuminated. You know what to do — press it.
On the Blu-ray Disc:
Insert your Blu-ray Disc and from the main menu you’ll see the words “Do Not Press!” near the top of the screen. Navigate over these words using your Blu-ray remote (or PS3 controller) and click on it.
What happens?
You’ll access an all-new menu screen that leads you to Dreamworks-related movie trailers (How to Train Your Dragon), TV show and DVD ads (Shrek the Halls, Secrets of the Furious Five, The Penguins of Madagascar), video games (Monsters vs. Aliens and Kung Fu Panda World) and a backstage view of Broadway’s Shrek: The Musical.
So, what’s your favourite DVD or Blu-ray Disc Easter egg you’ve found?

Not really much of an Easter Egg on the BD, as it’s actually completely visible. Easter Eggs should at least be hidden.

Fair enough, Greg!
Eggs on other discs are hidden better, sure, but it’s still technically an egg as most people don’t think they can click on that sign and those features arent advertized.
Good observation, though!

I really like the Fruity Oaty bar thing on the Serenity DVD. It’s just so twisted! LOL I think it was something like keep arrowing around until the graphics light up, not the actual menu items, and it plays.
