Rogers now offering the BlackBerry Curve 8520

By No Comments

Rogers has added a new BlackBerry to the available lineup; the Curve 8520, and it’s the first BlackBerry to have an optical trackpad.

BlackBerry-Curve-8520_200-365Today, Rogers added the BlackBerry Curve 8520 to the available lineup, joining existing BlackBerry smartphones such as the Pearl 8100, Pearl Flip 8220, Curve with GPS, Curve 8900 and the Bold. The newly available Curve 8520 falls in nicely with the existing lineup at $99.99. In order to see that price you will have to be willing to agree to the standard three-year contract. Otherwise, you can opt for less of a contract, but pay quite a bit more upfront.

But perhaps a little more important than where it fits in price wise, the Curve 8520 is also the first BlackBerry model to sport an optical trackpad as opposed to the trackball. If you ask me, I have gotten used to the trackball over time, but let’s just say that even with the cleanest hands, those trackballs look pretty gross after a bit of use.

Other features of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 are somewhat standard for any BlackBerry and include Wi-Fi, a 2.0-megapixel camera, Stereo Bluetooth and a microSD card slot for additional storage. The Curve 8520 also features dedicated media keys and is social network friendly. And without question, it also offers the now standard push email, calendar and contact support that many have come to take for granted on a BlackBerry.

Given all of that, I am sure there are some BlackBerry fans that will be happy about this addition, but personally I would recommend checking out either the HTC Dream or Magic – both of which run Android and are available for $79.99.
