Get your songs from iTunes onto your non-Apple MP3 player

PCWorld offers an easy to follow video tutorial on how to get your iTunes songs onto a non-Apple MP3 player.

PCWorld VideoOne of the great things about MP3 players is their physical size. Gone are the days of bulky Walkmans and cassette tapes overflowing a teenager’s room. However, there is a downside to the smallness of MP3 players and, if you’re a parent, I’m sure you’ll know what I’m talking about. The fact that MP3 players are small enough to fit into your child’s pocket also means they’re more likely to get lost or, in the case of my child, forgotten about and put through the washer and dryer (I long for the day when Apple decides to make an iPod that is both waterproof and heat resistant!). I really can’t say how many MP3 players my son has gone through – his latest being an iPod Touch, which he needed to save up for and buy himself, as I wasn’t about to put out so much money for something that, in all likelihood, was going to be yet another no-good-for-nothing paperweight collecting dust in the deepest darkest corners of my son’s bedroom because he won’t let me throw it out, saying – and I quote – “I can fix it or use the parts to make something else.” Yeah sure, tell that to the other deceased MP3 players decaying under his bed.

So, what’s the problem here, besides all the money we put out for new players? If you – or your kid – had an iPod as your choice MP3 player, you’ll also have all your music stored within iTunes and organised into your preferred playlists. If you’re iPod has died and you replace it with a non-Apple MP3 player, how do you get your music onto the new player?

iTunes Sync is the solution. PCWorld has created a video tutorial that walks you through the steps it takes to get your playlists and music from iTunes onto your new MP3 player that doesn’t have “Apple” branded on it.

Update: Looks like CNET also has a video on this, check it out!
