Video: Many ’spyware removal’ tools are spyware themselves

This might be a no brainer for tech-savvy Net surfers, but many Canadians who receive alerts about spyware infecting their computer will click to download “free” solutions — which not only puts more nasty stuff on the PC but then asks users to pay to remove it.

This practice should be illegal if it’s not already!
Bait-’n-switch…fraud…you name it; it’s covered by this one.
How can these people be stopped from damaging our computers?

I’ve had this happen to me alot, and the majority of the time its from going on movie sites and then they send you to an external link. If you end up downloading the said–Codec or “Active Scripting” or whatever, it’s usually going to be a virus, and sometimes when you click the “Download link”. It’s definitly something that needs to change but at the same time, I can always go to safer links.
Lets just hope that you don’t get the ones where it gets located in your registry files. Those are a bitch to get out =(

I think that hackers that get caught, should face a huge fine for malisious and wilfull damages and be prohibited from owning or operating a computer for life with a penalty of jail time, SERIOUS jail time, not the 90 day bullshit that is handed out for armed robery, (another Canadian justice joke) They cause hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and it is treated as a JOKE. Just once, would i like to overhear some snot nosed little dweeb bragging about sending out a virus, when i got finished with him (her) the chances of them being able to procreate in the future would be rather slim !

This is just plain vandilizim. The bastards that get caught for this should suffer economic consequences, and jail time. Its willfull distrution of other peoples property which their are laws against. People need to speak loudly about crimes like this.

rule #1. Do Not download anything you do not know anything about even if it looks legit just freaking google it!!!
rule #2. Do Not open e-mail or click on links on e-mail from people you do not know.
      rule #3. See rule # 1 and #2.
If these simple rules are followed you can be safer in the net.
