Sit on this: a portable, vibrating game pad

Gamers who want to better “feel” their games — without spending thousands on a high-end motion chair — might consider the $99 Free Play, dubbed the first wireless gaming pad you can use virtually anywhere.

freeplay-gaming-chairFrom Ultimate Game Chair, the makers of home theater chairs, comes this cushioned pad you can connect to your preferred game system – be it consoles, a PC or portable game systems and smartphones – and the five integrated “GameSync” motors adds some vibration to the seat.

The Free Play is referred to as a “wireless” game pad because along with an AC plug (included), it also houses a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery that can last up to 4.5 hours for games or up to 12 hours for music (if connected to an iPod or other MP3 player). Therefore you can use this in the backseat of a car as well as on an office chair, sofa or floor.

Speaking of music, the Free Play also includes stereo speakers at the top of the chair, near your ears. While it’s lacking some serious bass (no subwoofer) it’ll sound better than the audio emanating out of, say, a Nintendo DS. A small switch on the right side lets you select between a game mode or music mode, with the former enabling the vibrating cushions to go along with the lower frequency moments in a game (such as booming explosions). A headphone jack is also included.

Employing a proprietary 915MHz wireless transmitter that minimizes outside interference, the 4-pound Free Play pad easily connects to an audio source with the bundled cables (”RCA” stereo cable and 3.5mm mini-to-mini jack). A booklet that ships with the product illustrates how to connect it to an Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3, personal computer and portable game solutions, too.

The product can be purchased in Canada at Extreme Gaming Devices. Sync recently received a Free Play loaner, so watch for a video blog post coming soon.
