Previously $99, the Lexmark X4650 Environmental Edition Wireless printer — which also copies and scans — is available at Wal-Mart for $69.
It's called the "Environment Edition" because for every X4650 printer sold, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant a tree. This printer is also Energy Star certified, which reduces power consumption by 33 percent when in sleep mode. Another green consideration: built-in Wi-Fi means it can print from multiple PCs in the home, which is better for Mother Earth than buying a printer for every computer as we did a few years back. The X4650's packaging is comprised of corrugate made from 100 percent recycled product.
The X4650 prints up to 25 pages per minute (ppm) for black and 18 ppm for 6-colour printing (with quality up to 4800 x 1200 dots per inch). Want to print a glossy 8 x 10? Integrated technology called PrecisionSense automatically detects the type of paper being used to determine print resolution.
The unit also has 1-touch, PC-free copying (colour or black), while a hinged flatbed scanner easily handles thick books and reports. Pop in a memory card, USB drive or PictBridge-enabled camera and you don't need a PC at all. You can even choose effects, such as sepiatone, antique brown or gray, and black and white.
I've been giving away the Lexmark X4650 on Tech Talk, my CFRB radio show in Toronto, and the winners said they're easy to use and the print jobs look good.
I've been using the Lexmark X7675 (also a wireless multifunction machine) and I'm quite please myself.
