You sunk my battleship! Virtually, speaking

Xbox 360 gamers looking for something to play with the entire family – and let’s face it, mom might just not “get” Resident Evil 5 – can now download digital versions of classic board games over Xbox Live.

Battleship Xbox 360 gamers looking for something to play with the entire family – and let’s face it, mom might just not "get" Resident Evil 5 – can now download digital versions of classic board games over Xbox Live.

EA's Hasbro Family Game Night is now available, offering classics such as Connect Four, Scrabble, Battleship, Yahtzee, Boggle and Sorry! (800 Microsoft Points for each game download, or about $10 apiece), each with classic rules the way you remember them as well as new modes that throw a twist, such as timed arcade elements. The games are hosted by none other than Mr. Potato Head.

We got our hands on advanced copies of the games and they all look and play very well, especially with friends on the same television. All half-dozen Hasbro Family Game Night titles (and one to come soon, Sorry! Sliders) offer full Xbox Live support for head-to-head gaming over the Internet (up to four players for all games except Connect Four and Battleship, which offer two-player games), including the ability to earn Achievements, talk via headset and earn a spot at the top of the High Score board. You can also import your Xbox Live avatar into the game.

While all games let you try before you buy, it’s still cheaper to buy the $30 boxed game collection for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 (but you don’t get Scrabble).
