It’s official: ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ coming in September

Apple Corps, Harmonix and MTV Games made waves late last year with the announcement of a music video game based on the work of the legendary The Beatles — but the companies were quick to clarify it wasn’t going to part of the Rock Band family of products. Well, it appears it will be, after all. Let It Be, I say.

Apple and MTV Apple Corps, Harmonix and MTV Games made waves late last year with the announcement of a music video game based on the work of the legendary The Beatles — but the companies were quick to clarify it wasn't going to part of the Rock Band family of products. Well, it appears it will be, after all. Let It Be, I say.

You can circle 9/9/09 on your calendar as The Beatles: Rock Band will be available for play on the three main video game consoles: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

Gamers can play guitar, bass, drums or sing to many of the Fab Four's famous tracks that span their relatively short but impactful career. While existing Rock Band hardware will work with the game, players will have the option to purchase new instrrument-shaped peripherals modeled after those used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Pricing will be as follows:

• The Beatles: Rock Band (software only) will be $59.99
• The Beatles: Rock Band (software and guitar) will be $99.99
• The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle (a.ka. "band in a box") will be $249.99.

Is this something you'll buy down the (long and winding) road?
