Video: Google PowerMeter
We received a few emails from Sync readers about Google’s PowerMeter announcement. The idea behind the application is that you’ll be able to see a real-time view of how much electricity you’re consuming in the home (dishwasher, laundry machine, fridge, and so on) in the hopes you’ll reduce power consumption. Here’s a short video that explains how and why.

Is this ingenious or are you concerned about trusting Google with access to info on your energy habits?

Hey there,
Just a small note to say that Nathalie Pelletier from your franch counterpart posted a blog about 2 month's ago on a new product from Black&Decker that does exactly the same thing with out havine a energy savy computer turned on ;-) … And it's a canadian invention!!!!
Here is the link : http://www.synchro-blogue.com/synchro/2008/11/la-techno-verte.html
Have a nice trip ;-)
I have seen the B&D version ($100CDN), but I like the graph version concept from Google. Cant wait to see it…
Also the one Google engineer that says he has saved $3000 so far… My total energy bill for the year is less than $1200, if I eliminated all my energy use, it would still take me 2-1/2 years to save that amount… his statment seems a bit unrealistic… but I could be wrong.
Keep up the good work Google!
very interesting! thanks for this video
