Walk and watch TV at the same time

For those of us who want to simultaneously walk around town and watch television: Vuzix just unveiled the world’s first video eyewear with “see-through” optics.
On the surface, the Vuzix’s Wrap 920AV high-tech sunglasses look like other video eyewear products: they can display video and play audio when plugged into a digital music player, portable DVD player or laptop (via S-Video port).
But the glasses also feature proprietary “quantum optics technology” that allows you to also see what’s in front of you. That way, you can keep an eye out for a friend while on a park bench — without missing the latest episode of Dexter.
As with past Vuzix models, these twin high-resolution displays (640 x 480 pixels) also support 3-D video (sample content can be downloaded from the company’s website). An optional Bluetooth-based head-tracking sensor lets you experience virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments.
“From watching a Civil War video reproduction battle re-enactment on the actual battleground to walking through the streets of New York City with an animated virtual tour guide, the possibilities are endless,” said Vuzix CEO Paul Travers in a statement.
The Wrap 920AV weighs less than 3 ounces, includes removable noise-isolating earphones and can be used with prescription glasses, if needed. Battery life lasts up to six hours, says Vuzix, depending on the application.
This video eyewear will be available sometime this spring. No price has been announced yet.
Brilliant or bogus? What do you think?

Bogus. Bad enough we have all these tuned-out zombies walking around listening to their iPods (I own one too,) now we'll have to deal with tuned out zombies sleep walking while they watch TV shows. If you ever want to get a feel for what it will look like when machines run the world, just watch people watching TV, they look like they're paralyzed and on happy pills.
I see more accidents happening because people are not paying attention to the real world. Imagine getting so caught-up in a reality show that you step off the sidewalk and get run over.
Brilliant!
This type of technology will be our future. The applications for it are endless. This technology can actualy make our life safer.
WOW, something else to get drivers disracted when driving, "uh, Officer, I was watching tv, while I was put on hold when I was talking on my cell phone".
Exactly, just another distraction… watching TV while talking on your cell phone watch. This can potentially be very dangerous or very beneficial.
Isnt that expense though?
This is the coolest thing I have EVER seen! Finally here!
Now I'll be able to walk or drive watching Judge Judi!
No more missed shows!
Now they will have to figure a way I can use my cellphone at the same time!
Mike, How would this make our life safer???????
Faxman, I hope you were joking when you said drive XD
i am a pilot, i wunder wat wud happen if i flew while watching a Tv show?
I've been loving this concept for the PAST TEN YEARS !!!
So why has the resolution not improved in the past decade???
My TV has gone from 26"(640×480)CRT to 50" 1900×1080 Plasma, my stereo from 2.1-7.1 surround and yet these glasses remain stuck at 640×480??? Sorry but these will never sell at this resolution. Bring it up to at least 1600×1200 and you might start to sell these.
I would love to watch movies on the plane or work on documents with privacy but 640×480? You're joking right???
WoW .. That is actually sad… Yeah I have an Ipod… But thats not a complete distraction from whats going on around me… On the other hand A TV? .. Thats messed … People have this thing that they can only focus on one thing at a time… SO TV in front of your face vs. The so called boring real world. Which would you prefer.. Someone has got to slap the guy that decided this was a great idea .
More business for the optometrists!!!…Consider all the possible vision/neurological problems!!!
It's a really great technology… But yah, sorta unsafe. If you were walking down the street watching TV, you might miss don't walkl sign and get run over, really the only senario where you would actually use this is on the plane, or if you were a passanger in the car. And to lolol, just wonderin, do all pilots have that bad of grammar?
OMG!!! For a writing assignment, my class had to pretend to invent something and then write about it to a friend in a letter… I "invented" something very similar to this. LOL.
* I am in grade 6, so that's why I am typing things like OMG and LOL.
i would serously walk into a wall… I would totally use this on the air plane… Has anyone heard of the i360 iPod Headwear..? check out this video link..

What has our world become? What's the point of this? Just use your iPod or something
seriously, this is dumb though. ppl might get severely hurt.
that's just great, another way for people to be distracted while driving and cause an accident!
Seriously? Anyone see WALL-E?
