EyefiDefeating the Flip MinoHD camcorder, Google G1 Android smartphone and MSI Wind netbook, the Eye-Fi won the "Last Gadget Standing” contest at the Consumer Electronics Show — for the second time in a row.

In case you haven`t heard of the Eye-Fi, it’s a wireless 2GB SecureDigtial (SD) memory card that can upload photos from a digital camera to a PC or favourite photo sharing websites.

Unveiled at the 2009 CES, the latest version of Eye-Fi can also upload videos wirelessly to YouTube and your computer’s hard drive. Here’s a video on how it works (and check out the Johnny Cash impersonator).

This is the second year in a row the Eye-Fi won this coveted contest.

"We’re aiming to do for video what we’ve already done for photos: provide the easiest, simplest way to save and share your digital memories,” said Jef Holove, CEO for Eye-Fi, in a company statement. "Our wireless technology makes it effortless to upload videos to YouTube using the digital camera you already have, without the fuss of special software. You won’t need to find a USB cable or even turn on your computer to get your memories in front of one of the largest audiences on the Web.”

According to a recent InfoTrends study (entitled "Video End-User Research: 2008"), the point-and-shoot camera is now the most commonly used device for capturing memories on video.

Eye-Fi’s upcoming video support will include full-resolution HD video (such as those shot by a Nikon D90).

The Eye-Fi folks haven’t yet confirmed when it’ll be available but will be in 2009.
