Announced at last year’s CES, LG Electronics today will show off the world’s first 3G cell phone watch, dubbed the GD910, at the 42nd annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The wrist-mounted phone houses a 1.4-inch touch-screen which can be used to dial a number, in case you don’t want to use the voice-dialing option. The GD910 also features Bluetooth connectivity (so it’ll work with your wireless headset), a speakerphone, text-to-speech technology (hear your text messages read to you) and a built-in MP3 player.
It also makes video calls, thanks to a small camera in the top right corner of the screen.
The WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) phone supports the latest 7.2Mbps (megabits per second) HSPA (high-speed packet access) data system, so file downloads should be super fast.
Want to be accessible while going for a swim? LG says the GD910 is also waterproof.
Without reading any specs, we’re curious as to the size of this watch — but you can rest assured it’ll be on the bulky side, which might be a turnoff for some sci-fi lovers itching to wear this thing.
** UPDATE: I’ve worn the watch now (video coming) and by no means is it big. I was pleasantly surprised at the small size and how easy it was to actually dial numbers with your fingertip. Speakerphone is quite loud but Bluetooth is probably a better way to go anyway. **
The price for the GD910 hasn’t been announced yet, nor are there any carriers publicly committed to the product, but it’s expected to go on sale in Asia and Europe sometime by mid-2009.
Here’s that video I mentioned:

What do you mean "Dick Tracy eat you heart out". He's the one (or his creator Chester Gould) who thought of this years before some of us were even born. Gould was ahead of his time. We should be eating our hearts out.
This isn't the first watch phone, theres another one out there, its a camera mp4 mp3 and video player.
i think you should sell them in ottawa because alot of people wear watches and love cellphones so you should!
Love it! WANT IT! Need it!
I will be happy to see the wrist phone and have it with me because holding things in my hands for a long time l don,t like it. Thanks.
Hi Ahad,
It's the first 3G phone watch,
Marc
its cool
Also, I'll post another blog on this or update this one but I got a chance to wear the watch and it's quite small. I was pleasantly surprised,
Marc
But is it waterproof???????
This thing is 4-5 years too late. Yes it's cool, but the demand for internet and gps, everything the iphone and the storm provide, will keep this thing from taking off. Not the lack of features, but the physical size of the screen. I would have killed for one of these several years ago, but now I look at it as a crippled system.
This is not the worlds first watch phone? I have a watch phone and it isn't this one…
Can anyone enlighten us with an estimated cost please?
This is a neat little trinket. I agree with Dave, it's too little, too late. What the manufacturers need to do is shrink the iphone (and comparable products) to fit on your wrist. May be use a flip up dual screen set up like Nintendo's DS. Hard to jam all that technology into something soo small but hey, remember the building needed to house the first computer? Good on LG. And, if it's cheap enough (under a hun with a cell plan), what the heck, sign me up…
This watch phone is awesome i just bougth one
It is not the first out there. I been using one for the last 2 years, and it works with any sim card. It has many functions like mp3, video, and many more…. you can find it in kijiji.ca..
ITS THE FIRST >>>>>>>>>>>>>3G<<<<<<<<<<< CellPhone Moron, READ!
want one and need one but what is the price…?
who would want this, watches are small because you only need to tell the time on it. most people in the real world work and have huge fungers like me, but of course i dont we dont make as much as he office people so they cater to them.who cares if is has 3gigs, i have 16 gigs in my phone now so pointless and you would look like a retard talking into your wrist. Smart thinking. does it show the weather for when your not in the house, does it have games for when your on a trip or stuck in traffic, if it does, wow. hope you have good eyes and small fingers
Yeah, aside from the 3genius loser there, I think you all raise good points EXCEPT!!! why?
Frankly, why would we need this? You want an honest guess on the cost of this sucker? $500, and that's before you get any "discounts" on cellphone plans – which means you'll probably need a whole new "specialied" watchphone plan (iPhone plans anyone?). And for those of us in canada? Oooooh BABEH! is this sucker gonna be expensive! Look what Rogers did with their iPhone plans – you think, even with Bell and the others crossing to 3G, that they won't pull the same craptastic stunt?
You know what I learnt is a good cellphone over the years? A good cellphone. I don't care if it plays music, I have a music player for that. I don't care if it takes pictures, I have a digital/SLR cam for that. Can it surf the web? Why who cares? that's why I bought *LE GASP!* a pc! Unless it pays my bills, folds my laundry, and drives me to work, I don't care about extra features. I want to call people and occassionally txt, that's it. I don't need a google map-ap, that's what 411 is for. I don't need games on there, I have a PC, Wii, and DS.
Is it waterproof? Okay, honestly? Did you learn how to talk underwater now? You plan to call your friends up in the pool at the deep end? Don't even ask a question like that unless you have gills or are aquaman, please. Other than that, it's a phone, and like any other phone, you take it the F!ck off when you go in the water, unless you want to have no F1cking phone :).
So really, while we may Want one – who doesn't love new tech and gadgets? – do any of us Need one?
this is a forum, to remove something someone siad to make the product look cool is lame
