Nintendo still king in Canada

With the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in a heated high-definition battle for the family room — especially going into the all-important holiday season — Nintendo is quietly laughing all the way to the bank over its Wii and DS sales.
Matthew Tattle, account manager at the NPD Canada market research firm, has confirmed that the Nintendo Wii is the fastest-selling piece of video game hardware in Canada ever, "hitting the 1 million unit sales mark while only just finishing its second year of sales."
More than 1.1 million Nintendo Wii units have sold in Canada to date, followed by the Xbox 360 at 893,000 units and Sony’s PS3 at 544,000 units.
Tattle says Nintendo appears to have the Midas touch: "But nothing has sold more than the Nintendo DS since 2006, with over 1.6 million systems sold in Canada from January ‘06 to Sep ‘08."
Mamma mia, Mario!
So, which video game system do YOU prefer?

I have both xbox and Nintendo Wii. to this date.. the xbox is quietly sitting in its box..by far the Wii has taken over..A game system is supposed to be that.. a game system meant to be, fun interactive and keep you wanting for more. Yes the xbox has some cool games out there (I bought it specifically for HALO 3) but as soon as I finished the game.. there was no more.. The Wii is the game console that brings my family together.. just like in the old days when paying Mario on the NES!!! Everyone participated. Games are fun once again.. Way to go Nintendo!!

Pretty good numbers for all systems considering there's only about 33 million people live in canada.

Xbox all the way! With Xbox LIVE you get a much richer gaming experience by being able to play with friends, download extra content, listen to your mp3s, etc. They have a ton of family titles too (Scene it is one of my faves!). I bought it to play the music titles (Guitar Hero, Rock Band etc), but now have over 50 games ranging from Gears of War 2 to Madden 09, to Viva Piniata.

Nintendo is ruling the consol war because they gave consumers what they wanted! A gaming consol at a grea price, not a multi media unit at a pocket busting price. We all have computers and multi-media units already. I am an Xbox ower but I had to wait 3 years for the price I wanted to pay. Xbox 360 and PS3 are just way too damn expensive and over priced to begin with. I never understood why in the beginning they charge so much for those machines, did anyone tell them that it is just inelastic at that price. They would sell much much more like Wii did if they didn't charge so much! Wii did it! Why can't they? Way to go Wii.

I have the Ps2 and the Xbox. I would rather buy the Wii or the Ps3 because they are better companies to deal with. For my original Xbox they stopped making any games for it the second the 360 came out whereas my ps2 still has some games being made, the Wii is totally different in the way its being played and therefore has no competition.

I have owned many different systems and I wanted to like the Wii, I really did, but the graphics are terrible, the Wii remote just doesn't work well enough and fo me the Wii is just for kids.
The Xbox 360 has better games and the only reason why people were buying the PS3 was because the BluRay player was cheaper than all of the other ones, making it a deal of sorts. Now that BluRay players have dropped in price to well below the PS3 we'll have to see what happens now. I predict a drop off. As for the games, let's compare..
Xbox releases Gears of War 2, Sony Little people?
Xbox releases Halo3, Sony Broken Sword?
Xbox Live is great, PS3's online experience is okay.
Overall, unless you are buying a system for a child or a girlfriend, stick with Xbox 360. It is the least expensive of them all, and it has the best games.

I love the XBOX 360 enough said

truth is simple the wii is a family orientated system which is not ideal for hardcore gamers who want online difficulties in games rather than playing a majority of kids games. The wii currently caters towards those in the 50+ and -14 as far as the systems go while the xbox has so much hype around it with only a couple good games it would appear as though getting ripped off is making a killing these days. The problems with the xbox are simple, xboxlive you get to constantly pay for as well as all the attachments and the controllers do not fit nearly as well in your hands as the playstation controllers. best all round system is doing the worst because of the more money you have to put in initially. In the long run the playstation 3 is superior at this point with blue ray, internet capabilities, basically like a little computer.

Of course Nintendo sold the most units and here's why:
1) Innovative/interactive gaming
2) CHEAPER PRICE!!
Price is what matters here.
When these consoles first launched, the Nintendo Wii was, in some cases depending on where you live, $100+ cheaper than the other 2 next-gen consoles available.
As of launch dates, the prices were as follows:
NINTENDO WII – $279.99 Cdn (hmmm…)
XBOX 360 (core) – $399.99 Cdn (whoa…expensive!)
SONY PLAYSTATION 3 (20GB Basic) – $549.99 Cdn (yikes!!)
Today the pricing has changed, of course, with the XBOX being the cheapest of the three, but the Sony and XBOX consoles require a choice of hard drives, which causes your pricing to increase. There's only one version of the Wii, so the price stays the same.
Which do I prefer? The Wii is aimed towards non-realistic gamers – people who don't demand realistic graphics for a realistic video game experience (family-oriented games). The XBOX360 is great, but if you're a hardcore online player, you have that pesky XBOX Live Membership to pay for every year. The Sony PS3 has quite a firm price tag on it, but online play is free, downloads are free and the level of realism in the games are amazing.
My wallet hesitantly opens for the Sony PS3, hopefully at a sale price.

i own both a wii and 360 console and i havnt touched the wii in about 4 months. It was a neat idea getting interactive with games but nintendo just keeps releasing trash games, minigame game and another gets annoying. they havnt had a good release since ssbb and even that was a let down. But i love my 360, playing online with friends or just random people around the world. Plus it has the most impressive games, just in the past two months so many hit titles have been released. if your sick of spending 60$ on wii games that give you 2 hours gameplay, think it might be time to change to a 360.

O.k. no one else has said it, so i will. The nintendo wii is not for the serious gamer. If you want cutesy, family based games and graphics are not important to you, buy the wii. As for the Xbox 360, it is great, at least until it craps out. I have been through 4 Xbox 360's now, and i am not impressed. Sure $199 is cheap, unless you are buying a gigantic hunk of garbage. Attack of the Show said that according to microsoft, 68% of Xbox 360's sold to date succumb to the red ring of death. 68%?!?!?? Thanks, Bill Gates, thankyou so much for nothing. Oh and having to pay to play online? Icing on the cake. I'll be buying a PS3, it's a no brainer for me.

Being a loyal PS fan, I got a PS3. It has some solid games (not nearly enough) and outstanding free features, but the Wii is pure unadulterated fun. No matter what age! I love my PS3 and I love my Wii. There is nothing wrong with loving both (or all systems). I don't have a 360 mainly due to pay for online play and the red ring of death. IT is amazing how the old blue screen of death evolved into the red ring of death.

I cannot see how people enjoy the Wii. I realize that it is all personal preference, but I don't see how people find it fun. It is just awful.
Two of my buddies bought a Wii, and they sold them in 3 months – not to mention they never got used. I own a PS3, and I have nothing against the 360 because it is a quality system. But the Wii….I simply can't play PS2 graphics, because that's what it is (actually it's worse, Dreamcast graphics from late 1990's)
Basically it is all personal preference, I just can't understand what is wrong with people who prefer the Wii.

I own all three, X-box 360 was good enough for a while. Wii is good for little kids games, but the PS3 has been consistant with the PS2 and even for that matter with PS One games that are just better over all. Although, having said that, The Halo series still kicks Sony and Nintendo's butt…^_^

I currently own a PS3 and it is the only current-gen console I own. The reason I picked it over the Wii is because I didn't like the Wii's graphics and I didn't really like the controls that much. The reason I picked it over the Xbox 360 and Wii is because the PS3 has a much more powerful processor, built-in Blu-ray, free online play, built-in hard drive, Video and game downloads from the PSN Store, Sixaxis (which is kinda like the Wii's motion control but since I didn't like the Wii's controls that much, I don't mind Sixaxis because it's not used ALL THE TIME), PlayStation Home, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in Wifi, the satisfaction of knowing that the PS3 will last a long time (like the PS2), constant firmware updates based on users suggestions, internet browser and great exclusive games (LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Socom, etc.).
By the way, to those of you who say that the PS3 has no good games, here's what the PS3 is getting (or already got) this holiday season:
-LittleBigPlanet (Out Now)
-Socom: Confrontation (Out Now)
-Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (Out Now)
-Killzone 2 (February 2009)
-Resistance 2 (Out Now)
-Valkyria Chronicles (Out Now)
-Wipeout HD (Out Now)
-Heavy Rain (2009)
-Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (Out Now)
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Out Now)
-Gran Turismo 5 (2009)
-Siren: Blood Curse (Out Now)
And you can't forget all the multiplatform games coming:
-Rock Band 2 (Out Now)
-Far Cry 2 (Out Now)
-End War (Out Now)
-WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2009 (Out Now)
-NHL 09 (Out Now)
When you compare Xbox Live to PSN, they are almost exactly the same. They both let you play online with other people, they both let you download games, movies and music from their respective stores and they both have text messaging and chat (voice and video). The only differences I see are PSN is FREE, while Xbox Live costs $50 a year. PLUS if you want to connect wirelessly to Xbox Live, you need to purchase a Wireless connector (for about $40, I think). Also, I know Xbox Live is getting Avatars on Nov 19 but PS3 is getting PlayStation Home by the end of the year! For those of you who don't know what PlayStation Home is, it's basically a 3D world where you make your own avatar, then you go to different rooms, including your own which you can customize, and you chat with other people and from there you can launch directly into multiplayer games.
So even though the PS3 costs $399 or more, I think it's worth it for all you get.

Okay let me start off saying I own all 3.
Personally I prefer the Wii and Xbox 360. So the wii has standard graphics. But it has come along way from 8bit graphics and polygons, the wii has games for all age groups from Ec to M. But currently no other gaming system except for the wii can give u an interactive experience.
The xbox 360 yes you have pay 60$ for live omg wow 5$ a month for a good online community, you actually get 2 months free 1 month from purchase of a 360 and usually one when buying a subscription. As for the games sorry to say but games that have been exclusive to playstation have now crossed over onto the 360 like devil maycry and GTA. Oh and buy the way for those beloved ps fanboys. For hi def games xbox is the actual winner read the back of the games if you don't believe me.
Lastly the PS3 okay so blu-ray is the big winner in hd dvd. Yes prices of other blu-rays are dropping but the quality for the price is still a better deal with the ps3. Ps3 games I find mostly are for single players only, as for the ps network it works but not as great as xbox live which has been around longer and has a stronger community.
Again the console wars heres to hoping nintendo wins again.

For the reason why Wii is outselling PS3 and XBox, look no further than the people with the money to shell out: parents.
All three platforms have their fans, but if you're a parent of pre-teens, would you rather have them play Mario Kart or Gears of War?
Those of of who are parents now were around for the Atari 2600. To us, today's hyper-realistic game play is counter-productive. Plus, we want to (just once) beat our 8-year-olds to the finish line in Coconut Mall.

come on anybody who honestly supports the xbox is either a total computer gaming nerd or a newcomer to video game history if you look back you'll see that our king nintendo saved the very soul of the home console cause if you look back you'll see how atari almost murdered it. once nintendo did that they began to dominate the market due to lack of any good competion until sony came along with their improved graphics which was a fair way to come in as the new guy in the console wars but several years later the xbox came out with nothing but online play which is all right but really the only people who got max effect out of that were the kids or gamers who were too lonely or too nerdy to have any friends to play with but alright cause after high school its tough to meet up to play mario cart. so lets play online well sure but then since bill gates lost 4 billion dollars on the xbox {if you a true supporter you'll have their magazine aswell and that was were i got that jiffy fact from} so he had to be a fag and start buying all of his compititions source like rare ware for example which was a big problem for sony and nintendo but luckily nintendo had a couple of decades to win a few supporters or else the gamecube would've been the end. a couple years later everyone went nextgen which meant higher prices basically and better graphics but the wii decided that instead of saying to hell with the past they brought the vitual console out which is the best thing on the planet for everyone who was around back then because all of your classics that you sold to buy the next console can be downloaded again. My main reason for supporting nintendo is that they never forgot whats it's like to play video game with your buddies in the same room as you while you all have a hell of a time together and it gets you together. besides the internet is what a computer is for.
