This is a pretty cool story from a preservation point of view: Google has digitized never-before-seen images from the LIFE photo archive, dating back to the 1750s.

Google announced today it has digitally scanned about 2 million out of the 10 million photos in the entire LIFE magazine collection, all available for viewing by web surfers.
This photo collection also includes some Canadian content, too, including Queen Elizabeth’s and Jacquelline Kennedy’s visits to Canada, TIME magazine covers of Jean Chretien and Brian Mulroney, portraits of Lester B. Pearson, and more. Check it out.

I have a Life CD that came with an IBM PC (Windows 95). It's on my second hard-drive now, my trustworthy old Dell with XP. I find these pictures (1936-1975) to be a fascinating "time machine" and faithful record of the past.
