3M Introduces world’s first ‘ultra portable’ projector
“Powerful, portable and pocketable” is how 3M is billing its just-unveiled MPro110 ($399), a projector about the size of a deck of cards yet can produce an image up to 50 inches in size.
"Powerful, portable and pocketable" is how 3M is billing its just-unveiled MPro110 ($399), a projector about the size of a deck of cards yet can produce an image up to 50 inches in size.
The 5.6-ounce MPro110 measures just 2.3 centimetres thick, meaning it’s small enough to tote to a boardroom for a PowerPoint presentation and then bring it home to connect to a video iPod, portable DVD player or digital camera.
The projector boasts a brightness factor of 12 lumens, and with a power requirement of only 1.5 Watts; the built-in battery can last an hour on a full charge but also ships with an AC adaptor. The MPro110 doesn’t contain a noisy fans or speaker – simply connect a device to the projector using VGA or composite video cables (both included in the box) to splash video or photos on a blank wall.
3M says its combination of a LED light source, Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) imager technology and proprietary optics results in a brilliant WXGA-quality (1280 x 768 pixels) image from five to fifty inches.
"The applications of the MPro110 are virtually limitless with the key advantage of portability," said Richard Chartrand, general manager of 3M Canada’s display and graphics business, in a company press release. "You can take it anywhere — from the boardroom or sales call, to a fashion shoot or construction site. This technology offers consumers a big-screen viewing experience without the big-ticket price tag."
The MPro 110 website has additional details and images.

OK: this is what I have been asking the industry to develop. I would like a portable computer that has a virtual keyboard and a tiny projector that can put my "screen" on any flat surface. Then I can sit in any corner and work on the floor and the wall! Or any carrell that has a desk and a white wall.
This has been done before. Dell is one of them to release on. A new one comes out about every week.
The only thing better is the projectors screens size, but I doubt it is very good quality.
In the US, you can buy it at Shop3M.com
When they produce one with 1080p output i'll get it?
12 lumens?!?! All of that, eh? Lumen is a measure of the total output of light at the source. Lux is more or less a measure of lumens at 1 metre. Just to put this in perspective — a standard PAR 38, 90 watt Halogen flood bulb (the kind you'll often see on small stages in bars, etc.) will put out something like 1300 to 1600 lumens. So at 1 metre this projector should put out, well, very little. A 50 inch projection might just be visible in an otherwise totally dark room. Come on tech guys… give us something a little more useful than this toy – especially for $400!!!
This is my dream – portable home theatre! Thats coolest gadget.
