Dollar Daze: Uni-directional microphone for $1

Every couple of weeks in this space we highlight a fun gadget you can buy at your local dollar store for just a buck. Yep, nothing more than a shiny Loonie, plus tax, is all you need to pick up something you could spend a lot more on. This time we found a computer or karaoke microphone.

Yep, nothing more than a shiny Loonie, plus tax, is all you need to pick up something you could spend a lot more on. This time we found a computer or karaoke microphone.

Those who want to talk over the Net with friends and family might not have a microphone included (or built in) with their laptop or desktop PC.

While this particular model doesn’t have a stand to prop it up, we found a Wellson-branded universal uni-directional microphone for just $1 at two different dollar stores: Crazy Dollar and Dollarama.

This can be attached to a computer sound card’s audio-in jack, microphone jack or karaoke machine (some DVD players have these audio-in jacks on the front, too).

Tech specs are as follows:

Frequency response: 100Hz – 12500Hz
Impedance: 600Ω +/- 30%
Sensitivity: -7 +/- 3dB

Hey, for a buck, it’s not a bad thing to have kicking around in an office drawer.
