World’s first iPhone, iPod Touch stylus debuts

Some good news for the many iPhone users frustrated with the smartphone’s onscreen keyboard (my wife, with her long fingernails, is one of them).

Iphone_stylusSome good news for the many iPhone users frustrated with the smartphone’s onscreen keyboard (my wife, with her long fingernails, is one of them).

Ten One Design’s Pogo Stylus (US$19.99) is billed as the world’s first stylus pen compatible with the Apple iPhone — and the iPod Touch, a digital music player with a similar interface.

The stylus uses considerably less surface area than a fingertip, helping those with larger fingers or long nails  experience increased speed and accuracy when typing on the soft keyboard.

As iPod touch and iPhone users likely know, you can’t use any stylus or back of a pen with these devices because, well, they simply won’t work. Apple designed these products to be used with the pressure from a thick fingertips — until this clever product came around, that is.

While pricey at $20 (a 3-pack of Nintendo DS stylus pens costs just $6, after all) the Pogo Stylus is made of lightweight aluminum with an anodized finish. It ships in one of four colours (silver, black, gunmetal or cranberry) and includes a travel clip to secure itself to the iPhone or iPod touch body.

Interested Canadians will have to order the Pogo Stylus online, available at TenOneDesign.com, JR.com, ThinkGeek.com and MacMall.com.

What took you so long to find out about this? Anyway, it's been out for months. You can also make your own using a pencil, and wrapping foil paper at the end over the eraser part. Be sure to rub tightly on the foil over the eraser part. The smoother the better. Check out YouTube clips for more info.

Tyical Apple. They promote their crap as cutting edge, but it is all marketing. I bought a Samsung MP3 player over two years ago, with a touch screen!!!! Never had a single problem with it, including never needing to use a stylus to browse, my finger was sufficient. Now Apple, touting it's fashionable crap as cutting edge, is haviong problems with it's touch screen. At least the smarter people see throught their marketing, and have purchased quality products at a fraction of the price, AND THEY WORK FLAWLESSLY!!!!!!!!! Get off the bandwagon, and purchase something of quality not fashion!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, apple will come out with a new iPod or iPhone whose only new feature is a larger onscreen keyboard. Oh, and it might be 5% brighter, for 50 extra dollars. They'll call it the iPod Touch 2 1/2.

  • I suppose it makes sense… The iPhone markets itself as being a useful smartphone for so many different applications, but most touchscreen smartphones tend to use a stylus.

As for the price, $19.99; I remember shelling out that much for the teeny-tiny plastic Palm stylii back in the day, and I'd say it's hard to compare the Nintendo DS stylii to one for the iPhone.

Does anyone know if this version of the iPhone works with gloves on? Previous versions don't – I guess Apple doesn't really prioritize colder climates like Canada. I know Windows mobile works with gloves on or not. Winter is coming!
