Panasonic unveils world’s smallest, lightest dSLR camera
Digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras tend to be bulky and heavy, often worn around the neck of serious shutterbugs who demand better quality photos than what a typical point-and-shoot can deliver. Now, Panasonic latest dSLR makes these shortcomings less of an issue.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 is billed as the world’s smallest and lightest digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera, weighing in at approximately 385 grams (0.85 lbs).
Based on the new Micro Four Thirds System (MFTS) standard, the Lumix G1 eliminates the internal mirror structure found in dSLR cameras, thus reducing the size and weight by almost half. With the mirror-less system, the G1’s flange back – the distance between the lens mount and the image sensor — has been reduced from 40mm to 20mm (as specified in the MFTS standard).
As with full-sized dSLRs, the Lumix G1 offers superior photo quality, interchangeable lenses and many manual options. Features include a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor, image stabilization and 3-inch LCD screen with real-time view finder.
When available this November (and price to be revealed in October), the Lumix G1 will be available as a standalone body or with the new Lumix G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S lens. Also available at launch is the Lumix G VARIO 45-200mm/F4.0-5.6/MEGA O.I.S. lens.
The Lumix G1 will be compatible with current accessories: External Flash: DMW-FL360(GN36)/DMW-FL500(GN50); ND Filter: DMW-LND52; MC Protector: DMW-LMC52; Remote Shutter: DMW-RSL1; HDMI mini Cable: RP-CDHM15(1.5m) and RP-CDHM30(3.0m).

This is Not a dSLR, as it has no reflex mirror, so therefore no "R". The Olympus E420 is still the Smallest dSLR camera today.
This is more known as an EVIL camera – "Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens"

I'm not surprised that Panasonic is releasing this product. They have demonstrated a talent for periodically releasing cutting-edge and exceptionally well-designed products in the past, including the recent Lumix series (which is a joy to use) as well as the first two-function "laptop" (Word Processor and Spreadsheet function) which had a folding screen and which could be connected via serial cable to a Panasonic electronic typewriter for printing. They also made a terrific version of Sony's Walkman (at a fraction of the price). I look foward to this new Lumix from Panasonic. Kudos!
