The rumours are true: Microsoft will be shutting down its internal developer Ensemble Studios upon the completion of its upcoming Halo Wars sci-fi real-time strategy game.
The decision to close the Dallas-based studio, best known, in the past decade, for its award-winning Age of Empires and Age of Mythology computer game series, is "fiscally rooted," Microsoft said.
"After the closure, the Ensemble leadership team will form a new studio and has agreed to provide ongoing support for Halo Wars, as well as work on other projects with Microsoft Game Studios," Microsoft said in a statement.
Rumours of the studio closing had sparked concern about the future of Halo Wars, an Xbox 360 exclusive, due out in February 2009.

FIRST COMMENT
Halo is a cash cow.
it's to big to abbadon, where else is the money going to come from to continue operation of development of new games
THANXZ
who cares? halo blows. nobody's going to buy some dumb rts game that evolved from a first person shooter..
Halo's trash.
HALO ROCKS I AM SO BUYING THIS
FPS on consoles = waste of time.
RTS based on FPS on consoles = bigger waste of time
Dear Ryan and his relatives,
"to" is a preposition, not the adverb "too".
F**K you stupid illiterated. The best games are old grammar texts.
F**k you who read this.
Love,
Mom
P.S. F**k all of you
Xbox360 sucks. I like Super Mario Pimp………..A lot.
Mom needs to clean her own mouth out, and if she wants to preach, she'd better learn how to write properly. "Illterated" is not a word (typos count if you want to be arrogant) and punctuation goes before quotation marks.
Example:
"pwned."
And Halo IS a cash cow, Halo Wars will probably be put in good hands, but an RTS based on an FPS…it's definitely not going to be a Command and Conquer.
I have high hopes for this game.
Despite what inluenced the game's creation, there's a lot of money going into this
and when alot of money goes into something, it usually has something good to offer
Seems that Halo Wars would be better off in long term development if left in the capable hands of the Bungie team.
Mom was correct with punctuation outside the bracket deuschbag. She was quoting inside of an existing sentence. as in:
Wow these grammer lessons are f*cking "gay".
Nope. He's wrong. Douche :)
If you want to give out lessons, perhaps you should learn a little about what you're talking about (i.e.: spelling, telling the difference between brackets and quotation marks, etc). If you're from Canada or the States, Mom and their supporter are wrong, so far they haven't given any indication that they are from anywhere else. However, I could be wrong (but I'm probably not). You shouldn't just comment to bash someone else without having anything constructive to say to the topic at hand. That's probably why the initial post was so aggressive in response to Mom. These forums are littered with whiny little @$$holes who have nothing better to do than bash on other people with low writing skills, when actually, as this other person pointed out, they're not experts. It's people like that who are going to have these forums closed. Show me your English degrees, or STFU.
Halo Wars doesn't look very interesting. The only reason anyone cares about it is because it has the HALO name. If it were, for example OLAH Wars, it would just be probably just be another casualty. If it doesn't make enough money, MS wants it shut down.
PS3 FTW.
you all win… at looking stupid for arguing on the net.
