If you’ve been holding off on a video game console until prices became more affordable, Microsoft announced today a price drop for all three flavours of its popular Xbox 360 machine.
Beginning Sept. 5, the Xbox 360 Arcade will retail for $199.99 (with 256MB memory unit and five family-friendly games), the Xbox 360 console for $299.99 (with 60GB hard drive) and the all-black Xbox 360 Elite for $399.99 (with 120GB hard drive).
Previous prices were $279.99 for the entry-level Xbox 360 Arcade; $349.99 for the regular Xbox 360 (sometimes called "Pro"); and $449.99 for the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite.
All three consoles offer 1080p high-definition-quality graphics, multichannel surround sound and access to the Xbox Live service ($59.99/year) for multiplayer gaming, downloads and movies.
Unfortunately, none of them offer built-in Wi-Fi, a welcome feature available in the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 — an Xbox 360 wireless network adaptor costs $99.99.

Forget about spending a 100 dollars on a wireless adapter.
Use your laptop as the adapter!

um… ok…. in the Maratimes the xbox 360 consoles have been at the supposedly "new" prices since the beginning of 2008 at least… this isn't news at all. I work retail and every store within 2 hours of where i live has had the 360 console at these prices for a long time now…

Too late I bought my Wii two weeks ago.

Still a rip-off, better off to buy the PS3 or Wii.
PS3's Playstation Network is free and you pay for what you want to download, XBOX Live $59.99 per year subscription fee is garbage.

I will hold off on the next gen of gaming consoles as long as PS/2 continues to live and games are available. Besides PS/2 units can still be found for about half the price.

I sometimes wish that people would put just a little though into their comments before posting them.
For example. What? wrote that the PS3 is a better deal considering that the games are not very good, the system costs way more, the online domaine is terrible and the days where the system was a great deal because of the Blu Ray player are over. There are $199 Blu Ray players now, so why buy a system wth subpar games and a now overpriced blu ray player?
The Wii is a cute little system, but come on, what adult likes those Gamecube calabre graphics. They are just awful. Great system for little kids though. As for the wireless adapter. Hook it up with a hard cable and the performance is better anyway, but if you must go wireless, then yes, it is an added expense. They just dropped the price of the system by around $100, so basically you are getting the adapter for free anyway.
ALl three systems have their appeal, but as a GAMING system for adults, the 360 is by far the best. If you have little ones however, go for the Wii.
