We bought a plasma for $4000 and it lasted 4 years, then had a mysterious black line through the screen that wouldn't go away. Apparently, a common issue. So it cost us $1000 a year for 4 years for the TV. It would be $2000 to repair/replace. Now we are using the old school 20 inch Walmart special ($100) TV that has lasted over 6 years. HAHAHA. Give those pollsters a few years when their plasmas start to break down. They won't be so happy to shell out another $2000. </p> They obviously didn't poll our house. In any case, I have to say that it is pretty disturbing when you know companies are sponsoring 'studies' about their own product and getting great results. However, I think most people who buy a large screen TV would be happy no matter it be plasma or LCD. Picture quality has more to do with the source. Standard def won't look as good as HD no matter what type of TV you choose. What type of TV you choose depends on the lighting in your room as well.
