SpeakersEver wondered why we hear that "rat-a-tat" noise through your computer speakers when a cell phone is nearby? Nope, it’s not ghosts or aliens…

You’re on your computer minding your own business when all of a sudden, out of thin air, you hear a high-pitch Morse code-like tapping emit out of your speakers.

Say what?

You might be tempted to call Ghostbusters — and your phone will likely be nearby — because there’s actually a good reason why this is happened.

"Such type of noise could be attributed to one of the components of the audio circuitry of the speakers acting as an antenna, picking up some of the cellular signal and amplifying it" explains Salim Hanna, PhD Eng., and manager of new wireless services for EMC analysis and consultation at Industry Canada. Hanna says she has also experienced this phenomenon: "At home I experienced hearing a short ‘rat-a-tat noise’ occasionally on my hi-fi system when my BlackBerry is close, and establishing a link to a base-station after turning it on."

Noticing any other strange happenings on your PC? Do tell!
