Sync’s ‘Dollar Daze’: Pick up a book light for $1
Oh how I remember this purchase. My wife, Kellie, asked me to pick her up one of those clamp-on book lights so she can read in bed. “It’s so I won’t disturb you, honey” is what she said. Oh yes, it’s for me. So I buy some $35 contraption from Indigo — and less than a year later I find an even better one for just $1 at the Dollar Store. Sigh.

Those who read in bed need not spend more than a Loonie on a small booklight – if you know where to look, that is.
Rather than go to your local bookstore, try your neighbourhood dollar store instead.
"Dollarama" locations, for example, have an LED Booklight for a cool buck. Yes, $1, plus tax, for a small clamp-on light – including the three AG13 batteries required to power the light. Here’s a photo of what it looks like.
This product is actually kinda cool because you push a button and a robotic-like arm slowly unfolds in two places and automatically turns on the bright light for you. You can then slip the clip over a soft- or hardcover book and adjust the neck in a desired shape to best see the page.
Stay tuned to Sync in the coming weeks for other “Dollar Daze” specials from your local dollar store, including $1 walking pedometers, electronic Sudoku puzzles on keychains, battery testers and memory card slot cleaners.
