I'm 39 and have never seen those in my lifetime, nor have I ever seen a "locally produced" portable radio. Unfortunately nearly all electronic devices (especially portable ones) are disposable by default; even $300 Ipods are not designed to last longer than a few years. It's not the way it should be, and our society needs to look at recycling these devices more than they do.
