I feel that the i$ radio is a great thing, not only does it supply a demand as well as need it supports the enviroment with the size it is, we can all see that the need for the enviroment is there and this is just another way to provide an simple and needy thing to it. Our needs are part and parcal and we have to understand this as well, it a good thing to bring it to light, its another thing to cull it for that. Blair

This is what's wrong with the world. Useless crap that people buy because they can, never to use again.

I understand what the previous poster Rob is getting at, but his comments sound incredibly dated; 5 & dime stores? I'm 39 and have never seen those in my lifetime, nor have I ever seen a "locally produced" portable radio. Unfortunately nearly all electronic devices (especially portable ones) are disposable by default; even $300 Ipods are not designed to last longer than a few years. It's not the way it should be, and our society needs to look at recycling these devices more than they do. But I do think those $1 radios do serve a purpose, e.g. for a child that's asking for a music player from their parent, or maybe a backup radio for when the power goes out.

I would comment that 99% of the cheap disposable crap sold in the dollar stores (whatever happened to the 5 & dime stores?) is not needed, produced in environmentally disastrous sweatshops, and has a lifespan shorter than a housefly.

Do us all a favour and look for locally produced, quality goods, that will not be tossed into dumps because they will last, and will be worth keeping.
