I got a 1tb WD external hardrive with adapter and it has been formatting for the last ten hours. I realize 1000gb of memory is a lot but I never would of thought that it would take so long to format and while it does I can't watch TV. So my question is has anybody else used a an attached External hardrive for the PVR option and if so how long did it take to format?

Thank You

you formatted the hard drive to lynx when you pluged it into the receiver.. When you plug it back into the computer it is there but will not show... go into computer management. You will see it under storage.. there will be 3 parts to the drive. remove the partition on them and you will just see the one.. then reformat it and you can use it with your computer...
If you plug it back in the receiver it will format to lynx again

Hi Rod,
in theory, yes, it *should* work. However I don't know if Bell TV officially supports this use of an external drive, so don't be surprised if they can't help you (assuming it doesn't work) Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

@buges:
Right, the Bell TV receiver won't let you use an external HD on both it and a PC. However, some people seem to have had some luck getting their PCs to re-recognize an external drive using a program called TweakUI, which you can download here: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui
Now I've never used it, and I can't give you any assurances that it will work, but it may be worth a shot.
If all else fails, contact the manufacturer of your drive, and see if they have any tips.

There is a serious flaw with the USB drive option and the 9242. If the drive is near full and you attempt to copy programming that will exceed the USB HD limit, the system will reboot every time you try to access the USB HD. Twice now I have lost hundreds of hours of programming because of this flaw.

This is a pretty simple task to check prior to copying the files. Once again, Bell manages to mess things up. Remember the good old days when we had our DirectTV systems!
