We’ve written about Olympus’ waterproof digital camera here at Sync, and now, just in time for the summer season at the beach, cottage or pool, Panasonic has begun selling its waterproof camcorder.
Ideal for wet n’ wild summer excursions, Panasonic’s compact SDRSW20R waterproof camcorder can go as deep as 5 feet, plus of course this also means you can use it in the rain or snow, too. The cam is also shockproof, dropped from a height of up to up to 4 feet, as well as dust- and sand-proof so you can take it to the beach without fear of getting it dirty inside.
The SDRSW20R records MPEG2 video onto postage stamp-sized SD or SDHC memory cards. A 4GB card, for example, can fit up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of video on long-playing mode, 1 hour and 40 minutes on standard play or 50 minutes on "XP" play, the highest quality offered.
The camcorder, which starts up very quickly – just 0.6 seconds from the time the LCD is opened — can also shoot VGA (640 x 480) stills, which isn’t great, but could prove handy in a pinch.
The Source is selling the Panasonic SDRSW20R for $499.99.
