Surprise, surprise. ‘GTA IV’ tops best-selling games in April
Earlier this week we told you how the latest in the bad boy of video games has broken into the Guinness World Records for its ridiculous sales. So it’s not much of a surprise it was also the best-selling video game in Canada for the month of April. And hey, it came out on the 29th, too! Here we look at the Top 20 games sold in the Great White North.

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sold quote well in Canada – more than 270,000 copies between the four sku’s (see below), totalling $17.13 million, the biggest launch month for any title in the Canadian market.
Here’s a look at the Top 10 best-selling video games for April 2008:

I really thought super mario smash bro's was up there more and still , GTA in 3 with 1st and 2nd, i bought mine for ps3 and it is amazing! No doubt it should be number 1

also interesting to note is that GTA4 was only out for 2 days in the entire month of april and it STILL outsold everything else.

I'm not really surprised that it's sold so much. Harder to peg down exactly WHY it's selling, though.
When you figure in that the price for consoles has dropped down a bit from when they were first introduced, there would be more people who OWN the console to play the games, hence more buyers. Add on to that all the hype and publicity that the game gets, both positive and negative, I can agree that would push the game selling so well. No question that even the previous releases of the GTA series have been VERY popular, hence it would be highly anticipated, not only for the hardcore fans, but even for those who just want to see how the new game compares to the older ones on a brand new console.
And yet… I don't know whether I agree with the whole "OMG its awesome buy it NOW!!!1!" best selling game title. It will have to be compared to future big name games that come out in future to really see whether it's doing over-the-top well, or the industry is just expanding that quickly.
Personally, I'm waiting for MSG4.
