‘Guitar Hero’ readying ‘World Tour’
The sound of Slash’s wailing axe may still be ringing in your ears from Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but the Santa Monica-based publisher has already announced its next major game in the franchise, due out this fall for the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 and 3.
Guitar Hero World Tour appears to be the most ambitious Guitar Hero title to date by adding a slew of new features for fans of the franchise.
Similar to Rock Band, the upcoming music game will allow gamers to form a band to play in front of the same TV or online, with all-wireless instruments including a newly-designed guitar, electronic drum kit (featuring three drum pads, two raised cymbals and a bass drum kick pedal) and microphone. A new single-player Career mode lets players to swap instruments as they progress through the story (or choose to stick with one), while the innovative Battle of the Bands mode allows up to eight players to compete online to see which band rocks the hardest.
Activision says Guitar Hero World Tour also adds a Music Studio music creator tool that lets players compose, record and edit their own rock n’ roll anthems, utilizing all of the instruments if desired, and then importing these tunes into the game. Players can also share their masterpieces with others through an online service called GHTunes.
Unlike past Guitar Hero games made up of sound-alike bands mixed with genuine recordings, Guitar Hero World Tour songs will be comprised entirely of original master recordings, says Activision, from some of the biggest names in classic and contemporary rock including The Eagles, Van Halen, Linkin Park and Sublime.
The game is currently in development by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while the PlayStation 2 version is handled by Budcat. The Nintendo Wii version, developed by Vicarious Visions, will also be the first in the Guitar Hero franchise to allow for downloadable content, namely additional songs.
How to pass the time until the fall? Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS is out June 22, while Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the Xbox 360, Wii and PS2/3 is out June 29.

That's pretty cool. A rip off of Rock Band, but cool still because Guitar Hero is always better than Rock Band.
LOL, of course the first post is from a Rock Band hater. RB is superior than GHIII in so many ways, I can't even begin to compare. GH World Tour is too little, too late from a franchise that Activision and Neversoft are trying to bleed dry. They are not interested in quality game play, only big bucks. I mean really, 3 game editions in a year? Why? MONEY is the only thing they are interested in. But hey, if you want to part with yours that easily, who am I to stop you?
Well, Rock band actually ripped off guitar hero in that red octane was planning on adding other instruments before they were bought, and thus making rock band a rip off of GH not the other way around.
Hey "Unbiased"(probably not) player, get some facts and sense before posting. If they were planning on making more instruments for it, WHY DIDNT THEY IN GH3? Rock Band is not a rip off, even if that was true, because THE GAME WAS NEVER MADE WITH THE INSTRUMENTS, meaning that there was no actual product that they "ripepd-off", considering your already obviously bad comment, false.
guitar hero is the original gangster game. rock band sucks
i JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHY YOU HAVEN'T COME OUT WITH COUNTRY MUSIC FOR THE COUNTRY MUSIC LOVERS OUT HERE?. IT WOULD SO AWESOME TO SEE THAT COME OUT.
This is just another money grab, ROCK BAND's stuff was cheaply made and the drums pedal often broke. Also, the only give you limited songs on the game cd, new songs for the game should be free. Paid 150bucks for the gaming rig and now you have to fork over more dough for songs.
Oh. God.
country music sucks. thats why.
THERS ONLY 3 DRUM PADS. WTF?????!!!!!
BECAUSE RED OCTANE WAS BOUGHT BEFORE THEY COULD IMPLEMENT THE MULTI INSTRUMENT!!! SEE!!! I CAN USE CAPS TOO!!! MAKES ME FELL LIKE IM ANGRY!!! seriously simmer down, im just stating facts I not sure if RED OCTANE was the one who was bought though.
Casey there are 3 tom and snare pads and 2 cymbal pads. Rock Band had 4 pads that did double duty. This is actually a little cooler of a setup than RBs. Hopefully it will be a little sturdier than RB and maybe made of a little softer plastic. Though I hope the high hat cymbal can swing down to be beside the snare pad instead of on top like that.
it sounds very interesting. as an owner of GH2,3,rock the 80s and rock band, it kinda pisses me off that the drums are different, because now I have to go and buy new ones, but it looks more complex and fun. i hope budcat does a better job with the graphics on the PS2 this time, as GH3 was abysmal.
OMG!!!!! this is gonna be my life… screw rock band for wii… i'll get GH areosmith while i'm waiting… (rock band is good and all… but CUSTOM SONGS???? OMG!!!)
